I'd imagine those in charge of the invite list have a level of discretion around who and why, with a balance of commercials and those who they know would genuinely enjoy and add to the experience.

Thanks for reply Coathanger, I think thats it in a nutshell or at least the way I interpreted it and if that was the case they had the balance just right, and I may know a bit about the process and rarity but it's still down to individual taste. One persons Laphroaig as a nectar from the gods is another persons poison.

i'm afraid I'll just have to stick to buying on my budget whiskies around the £200-£300 range everytime I pass through Schiphol airport on my way home to Inverness.

Diagio's Blair Atholl distillery in Pitlochry does some delightful tasting whisky as well.

Giantlonglegs, the weather bar the last day was amazing for the whole time so much so when we got to Talisker on the Isle of Skye they said it is most unusual for it to be so good, but because is was still cool we avoided the dreaded midges.

Simply amazing. Thank you so much.

I remember when Brora whisky was not very expensive (back in the day.)

But (wee quibble....) Isle of Mill cheddar velouté?

Isle of Mill, yes great, think they got in a middle.......

I know about the old price of Brora, pity I did't stock up on the 'Rare Malts 1972' expression then they were about £70,some 1972's a cool £4,000 - £5,000

The thing is after I was dropped off by the Rolls at Edinburgh airport I had to get a Flybe back to Manchester and that was delayed and next morning my taxi didn't turn up to take me back to the airport for a flight to new York, I had forgotten how to think after having everything done for the previous 4 days, talk about facing reality.

Tell me more about this distillery near pitlochry please... is it open to the public? I ask as I am doing a Scottish road trip late July/early August and this might be just the thing for a short outing.

It's a real pleasure to read a trip report on something that is worthy of being called PREMIUM.

"Tetra Pak" house looks lovely.

Thanks hugolover, you are correct regarding Corrour, it was purchased and is still owned by the 'Tetra Pak' heirs, thankfully we did't have to open many cartons, I'm terrible with them.

USA-flyer,
Pitlochry has two distilleries,Blair Athol and Edradour, and both have tours for visitors.
And Pitlochry itself is attractive and worth a visit.

It's funny - I've been to Pitlochry and Blair Athol castle a couple of times but never thought to see if there are distilleries nearby. My father in law is a whisky buff and a day trip to one or both of those distilleries will be just the ticket.

Thanks for the info on the names - i now know what to look for on the maps!

Wow, a dream trip come true. I have been lucky enough to visit various distilleries including some smaller ones on the islands but of course never to this level. Just wow!
