I though a short report might be a good read.
Due to some bad weather (pre Isabel) and a one day delay in getting in PHL, I finally made it on Sunday afternoon to connect to US42 to Amsterdam. Flew Envoy class which is nice, but the service has really been scaled back since their bankruptcy. The new A West terminal in PHL and the new Envoy lounge are great. PHL - AMS service on US is on a 767-2 which I wish they would change, but all in all
the flight and service was good.
Stayed at Le Coin apartments right next to the Hotel Excelsior on the Amstel, right at the Muntplien. Excellent room with full shower, and small kitchenette which was handy for drinks and snacks. There was a coffeemaker etc. and a very comfortable bed. Enough with the room!
I was in de Dam for 4 nights and it seemed like the time just flew bye. the weather was perfect, sunny and warm each day and not a drop of rain.
Went to the Albert Hein to stock up on cheese, bread, deli meat, wine and most importantly good Dutch coffee and other assorted stuff. Bought some flowers at the market (in between the hotel and the supermarket) for the room, what gay man couldn't resist?! I headed out.
Cough, cough baby - I felt like I was back at Potsdam State in the 70's when I hit a few coffeeshops in town, I especially like De Kuil off of the Damrak near the train station and it is great for those who don't smoke. Pool table, full bar, great music at a sound level where you can talk to others.
After a quick walk around the RLD and the Warmostraat I headed off to the Thermos Day (wow, what a nice place and so packed on a Monday) Thermos Day is the bomb. Had fun but I was running out of steam.
Warning - do not drink too many beers with the name of Duvel - which I now know translates to Devil. I stopped at Het Molenpad bar on my way back to the apt. and drank 3 Duvels and practically fell out. This is a word to the wise. Crashed at the apt. and slept until daybreak.
Day 2 - shopping mostly for friends, list included;
coffee
Heinz curry catsup
small coffee spoons
flower bulbs
chocolate
and with success, I found them all.
I have to get ready for work now - but I'll finish this tonight when I get home with more nightlife details

What's funny is that I agree with anonplz, that we're going a little too far away from GLBT Travelers here.
There's nothing particularly gay-oriented about this trip report, so I'll move it to Trip Reports.
