Wow, some adventure. Same clothes for 3 days ! Yikes !
Don't quite get the whole upgrading part though..did you actually think you would be moved to business class free of charge on a long haul flight ?

Welcome home, travelnick!
I did MR to Barcelona the same weekend (on NW). However, my MR was very smooth compared with travelnick. I also ran into the war protest. 1,300,000 people! Never in life, that I see a city with so much energy. I tried to take the metro, but couldn't get on since all trains were all packed. I gave up after waiting for over 30 minutes (I walked to La Rambla from MNAC).

geez, it's bad enough that someone changes their seat to steal your perfect row...but then starts to barf all over too??
I would have politely informed him that his assigned seat was elsewhere, his barfing was bothering me, and he needed to return to his assigned seat. If he didnt move, I would have found a FA to move him.
Did you try protesting to the passenger?

In the beginning it was nice having someone in the row to talk too, especially on a 7 hour flight.
Once the puking started, I got a bit distressed, I had to remember to breath through my mouth, instead of my nose, cause if I would have smelt it, I would have had a problem myself. The good thing about this guy was the fact that he kept all of it in the bag. I definitely would have left if he had some on himself, the seat or floor.
I was going to write a complaint, but I won't now. I looked at my FF account and it's kind of weird. I got miles for the missed flight on Sun., Elite
Qualifying flight miles and the bonus miles, plus I got miles for the actual flight I took on Tue. So actually, I got 1500+ miles for the inconvenience.

Did you ever make it to MDW?? With NW's weather waiver, I believe they were refunding nonrefundable tickets for people who were inconvenienced-- and I'd say your return flight (on a NW partner, no less), especially if posted to your NW account, would prove you were among the inconvenienced masses.
Granted, being in the same clothes, you probably weren't prepared to go to MDW...
but you could have likely asked CO to reroute you from EWR directly to MDW instead of to MSP.
Glad you got back safely. My MR that weekend was the opposite: I flew AMS to MSP to DCA and got stuck in MSP for a few days-- but no worries: I stayed with my family there.
