Quick report: DL - LAX-DFW
I had to make a day-trip yesterday to DFW for a meeting. I tried to get my agent to book AA both ways (cause of the schedule...I'm 1K on UA, but for a day-trip like this, I care mostly about schedule). But of course, being the dutiful travel agents that enforce our company contracts at every turn, I had to fly out on DL and back on UA.
DL1454 was scheduled for a 7am departure. I checked in quickly with the self-serve kiosk in the lobby and cleared security in about 8 minutes. I went to the Crown Room (Red Carpet Club recip priviledges). Very nice. I especially liked the 'quiet area' that prohibits cell phones.
When boarding, I noticed the multitude of flat screen monitors passing along information for upgrades and standby passengers. Very nice.
We boarded and sat there. Apparently, there was some mechanical problem with the front cargo loading thingy. After about 20 minutes, I went to the front of the aircraft ot enquire about alternate flights (hey...only a day-trip,remember?). The FA called the service director. As he came down the jetway, I asked him about the 8am on American. He said it was sold out. Hmmm..somehow I didn't believe him. I called my travel agent while he was standing there, and she said it had loads of seats. I told the service director this, and he said "well, you can do whatever you want... but you're on your own." Gee what a crappy attitude. I said "excuse me??" And then he asked if I was a DL frequent flier. I said "no, I'm a full fare passenger...that's more important to your company right now, isn't it??"
Well, just as I was making my snide remarks, the captain magically decides that we can fly with the cargo thingy not fixed. Hey, if it wasn't an issue, then why delay us at all?
The flight was uneventful otherwise. Service was VERY uneventful....or should I say non-existent? A beverage service on a 7am flight from LAX-DFW is pretty pathetic. I flew CO two days before from LAX-IAH and at least they served corn flakes and a banana. No need for DL to create a low cost carrier....their mainline has no food and lousy service already!
Overall, the flight was fine, but I would avoid DL in the future due to the idiot service director and his unacceptable attitude. But hey..that's just my 2cents.

Agreed. How can you duplicate nothing to begin with?

i dont fly Delta much anymore, although i am gold. they have always been rude, abrupt, and once a perturbed FA gave me my dinner course with the salt shaker loose...
i had asked to change my seat in an empty first class cabin on the old lax- frankfurt l-1011 route and she was looking askance at me throughout the boarding process.
I guess I should have told someone but its hard to prove anything- but i believe we had a psycho case on our hands. My mealed was ruined when I used the salt shaker of course. she made her point. of the gate agents, the dFW seem to be particularly nasty- there is one mrs. Sears- ugh..
