NWA first class from Mexico
NWA Flight 1822
MEX-DTW
A319
Depart 2:15 PM
Arrived 7:06 PM
Seat 2B
I arrived at Mexico City airport about 3 hours early. I checked in and was offered a pass to either the United or Continental club. I chose the Red Carpet Club and was offered drinks and snacks which consisted of bagels, cream cheese, cookies, and an assortment of fruits and cheeses. I spent about an hour in there surfing the internet on their nice Dell computers and then went to my gate. We boarded early and were offered a pre flight drink yet I declined. I sat down in 2B and almost all of first class was empty so I moved over to 2A. I had no one in front of me, next to me, or behind me which was nice. We taxied right to the runway with no stops and had a powerful takeoff behind a MX 727. We hit some moderate turbulence on takeoff with some heavy bumps here and there but this seems normal on these flights into and out of MEX, probably due to the mountains. About 15 minutes after departure the air smoothed out considerably and the flight attendant came around with either peanuts or pretzels and soda. I got peanuts with a full can of diet coke in a glass. After that the Captain came on and gave a lengthy report of our trip. He stated well be cruising at 37,000 feet and have smooth skies at least for the short term and be getting into Detroit at around 7:15 local time. The flight attendant then came around with hot towel which felt really good and I was curious to why we didnt receive them on the flight down. There are only 8 passengers today in the first class cabin. The cabin was very roomy although the seats could have been better. Across from me were two empty seats and behind me were both empty too. Amazing! The lunch service started and we had two choices: beef or pasta. I got the pasta and it wasnt so great. It was overcooked noodles in a cream sauce with a huge rubbery Portobello mushroom in it. The sauce had some mushrooms and herbs but wasnt so great. Along side the pasta was a salad with lettuce, red and yellow pepper, tomato, and surprisingly cactus fruit strips. The dressing was an Italian dressing and quite salty. There was also a warm roll and butter and 3 pieces of shrimp over some lettuce and tomato. The flight attendant placed a table cloth on my tray and then the entire meal was served on a tray covered in another table cloth. I was shocked that the flight attendant offered me red or white whine as Im only 19. Hmm...Go Northwest! Lunch was cleared and we were offered an ice cream sundae with vanilla ice cream and chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry sauces, and/or nuts and coffee. Excellent ice cream sundae! Soon we hit some light turbulence and the captain came on the PA and said well be hitting light chops for the next 30 minutes. He was very informative and descriptive. I wish there were more captains like the one on this trip. The bumps were getting pretty bad at points as we were flying along the coast of Texas, along Corpus Christi as our pilot pointed out. For the next hour or so the flight attendant disappeared, apparently eating, and we skimmed the clouds all the way at 37,000 feet. A few times we went into them and once the plane banked really hard to the right due to turbulence. Fun fun. Duty free was passed around and no one in first class was interested. About 45 minutes later warm cookies were passed out and we were offered seconds too. The cookies were raisin and walnut with a sugar cookie base. They were delicious and obviously baked onboard. With the warm cookies came a glass of nice cold milk. Totally hit the spot perfectly! Way to go NWA! About this time the seat belt sign came off but 10 minutes later the turbulence started again. We had problems finding smooth air throughout this almost 4 hour flight. We had a smooth descent into the Detroit area with a landing at 7:06pm. We had a long taxi to the gate and an extremely long wait for the baggage. I waited about 1 hour to get the bags. It was ridiculous. Breezed past customs and went to my next flight on to Newark.

This flight was one of the bumpiest and strangest flights ever. We were offered pre flight drinks and took off like a rocket into the night sky. Flight attendents passed around drinks and a bunch of different snacks in a basket. After service was done we hit some major turbulance but the captain never said anything. It seemed like in a way we were looking for it. After a short flight we came into landing really hard and braked maybe the hardest I've ever experienced. We landed maybe halfway down the runway. Kinda of scary. Anyway hope you enjoyed my trip report!
