STL on TWA
Quick business trip to St. Louis--couldn't see my parents b/c they are gone to SFO/PDX for 2 weeks (culminating in a 1 week cruise on the Columbia River), so I booked an internet at the Holiday Inn Airport (Woodson Road) for...$42.95 for Sun nite.
TW ATL-STL
Go out to gate to get my BP (full fare Y26 at $815 RT
). I assume that I will get the auto upgrade. Out spits...16B. I'm confused and ask the agent "Whasssup". (I've seen him there before so he's been around awhile). He deals with it for a few mins. then asks me to work with the redcoat who's also working the flight.
He fiddles a bit with the computer and comes to the conclusion that my travel agent didn't book the appropriate class of service--needed to be YUP instead of Y26, but the fare is identical...out pops 4D.
I call right then and there to see if the COS can be chgd for the return flight. We get cut off on the cellphone so I give up.
Quite full MD80, water or OJ offered after boarding, lunch snack of 1/2 turkey/cheese sandwich, some nice melon, commercial deli pasta salad and Milano cookies. Very clean flight. (I think that TW's new cabin interiors (black cloth with squiggles) looks tidy and clean much more than most other interiors.
Right off plane, Hertz gold Mazda Protege (I really like these).
Got to do some things I don't do when visiting STL usually (and doing the family thing)--drove around a bit, visited with old neighbors, and took a family friend (widowed 1 1/2 years ago) out to dinner at Zinnia in Webster Groves. This is a SUPER restaurant (bistro type) on Big Bend for any of you St. Louisans.
Bought a gigantic kettle at Famous-Barr--wondered how i'd get it on the plane
Forgot it in the trunk of the rental, the Hertz driver was really nice about taking me back and I retrieved it. FWIW, he said he makes 40 roundtrips a day btwn Hertz and the airport.
Business trip out to Mt. Vernon with three other people flying in Mon. AM. 85 mph in the Town Car one of those folks picked up.
Alas lunch choices there are limited--Applebees was the choice.
Got back to the airport about 415p, needed to go to the locker where I'd secreted my bag and kettle (like a dummy out on the A concourse--I wasn't thinking on Mon AM). I called from the car to check on the flight and change it to the 5 pm instead of the 630 flt, but got cut off so didn't know whether I'd gotten on.
Rushed to gate D12, and only one guy working the flight. To his credit, he didn't forget anyone he was working on (although all the standbys he called before he got to work on a couple of us concerned us). I didn't get upgraded, but no matter--the back was only about 60% full (first was 100% full) and a quick 1 hr 2 min flight--I was home.
