BDL-EWR-CMH-CLE-BDL
Went to bed at 9PM, set alarm for midnight so I could get my first upgrade as an Elite. After about 15 minutes on hold, got through. Very very nice people. Upgraded on the BDL-EWR (CO) leg and the EWR-CMH (HP) leg.
BDL-EWR went great. We got there too quick, and our gate hadn't been vacated. Pilot had to wait in the "bullpen" for 10-15 mins.
EWR-CMH not so great. While waiting to board, had a nice talk with a woman who also has a daughter named Victoria (her is 15 mos).
Flight delayed about 45 minutes while they waited for someone to certify their emergency medical kit. Seems they'd use it on the incoming leg, but no one told anyone so it wasn't until we were boarded that they noticed it during the checklist. They had a new kit within 5 mins, but we had to wait 40 minutes for someone to come certify it. HP definitely dropped the ball on this one - simple communication could have prevented this. Very unimpressed.
The woman's child (sitting in first row of coach) was an absolute angel. Didn't even know she was there.
Drove to customer site (about 45 minutes south of Canton). Stayed at the Holiday Inn in New Philadephia. Nice place. Best of all, there was a batting cage literally around the corner. Unfortunately I'd forgotten my batting gloves, so now I'm sporting nasty-looking blisters. Rough start in the batting cage, but after a few bucks I got my timing down and was ripping some line drives. Unfortunately no major league scouts sitting around.
I retained my title of Pied Piper of Baseball. Met some teenage young men and we talked baseball for a while. One pitches in HS and experiences some shoulder pains. I gave him some pointers on mechanics in return that if he makes the bigs, I get a cut.
Returned to Columbus on Friday night. Stayed in a Sheraton Four Points. Next time, I'll just sleep under the interstate. THUMBS DOWN! On the plus side, I know what a Coca-Cola bottling plant sounds like - the hotel is next to one and all night long trucks rolled in and out of there. Fell asleep at 11:00p, up at 4:30a to return my car and catch a 6:00 flight.
CMH-CLE uneventful. Turboprop, but was tired enough to sleep.
CLE-BDL was a regional jet. Very nice ride, but no FC
Flight was delayed due to some parents who were orchestrating where their four kids would sit and kept changing their minds while 95% of the passengers waited behind them. Nothing like a good game of musical chairs, I say.
Final result: 1 teen in 1A, two girls (5-7?) in 3B & 3C. 1 pre-teen in 5A and parents in 15B&C (Emergency Exit). Some people just need to be slapped silly.
Land in BDL - car battery dead. Called AAA, and luckily they had a truck in the next lot - 10 minutes later I'm on the road home to a very warm reception.
Got home, locked the door, took the phone off the hook and played with the kids until they dropped from exhaustion a little while ago.
