The Cat and I had a Sam Adams in DEN last night. Afterwards he presented me with a really cool Hawaiian shirt for the PIP. The Cat is under the impression that shirt will make all the difference and I will finally meet the elusive future Mrs. Auh2o.

Other notes...

The DEN RCC's serve food. There is a sign that says DEN is the only RCC's that do serve food (thus don't expect it everywhere any time soon).

The 1K center told me that on average 2000 1K's fly through DEN every day. Makes me think that there are more than 40,000 of us.

I scored the double upgrade on the 747-400 to LAX. For those keeping track, 18 seats, 11 UA employees, 2 1K's, 2 PE's, 1 Premier, 2 no status. C class was so full of 1K's that I lost count.

I hope the CAT wins big in Vegas!

Hey Matt, I think you need to get the flight number from auh2o & request a copy of the FC manifest.

What was that UA policy again??

UA's policy is that they don't let customers double-upgrade to first class. Instead, they fill first class with their own employees and give upgrading customers slightly worse service in business class than they're used to geting when upgrading in two-class aircraft. Oh, yes. In UA's three-class domestic flights it's not that they add a class better than the two-class flights. They add a class in between the two and put you there even though you're paying the same to upgrade. It's frustrating and one of the two worst things about UA in my opinion, the other being a refusal to let elites upgrade any fare internationally.

Shadow, I wouldn't assume too much. AuH2o didn't say that anyone on the upgrade list was denied an upgrade. There were even 2 persons with no status in First on this flight. These domestic segment 3 class aircraft are always popular with United employees for just this reason...most folks are upgrading from Coach to Business, leaving First pretty much empty. Remember, almost every airline allows it's employees to fly First if seats are still available after they have cleared the waitlist.

In the 'ol days the only way to get into F/C if you were not an airline or travel industry employee was to buy a F/C ticket, except for those rare times when coach was overbooked.

Now to get back to the original subject of this thread, I'm glad that Catman got to take off his CMDR CATCOP badge and get some rest and relaxation in Vegas! Hope that the 'quake didn't interrupt his fun.

Yep, you're right PremEx...guess I was assuming too much.

UA certainly wouldn't want to set any precedents by double-upgrading all of those 1K's in BC, they'd rather let the non-revs sit in FC ahead of the elite flyers.

Shadow, I agree with you that double upgrading should be allowed (at least on a Standby basis). But I don't see anything in AuH2o's post that he was indicating any violation of policy on United's part that would warrant an audit of the manifest. Actually to me it reads like he was quite happy that they did in fact allow him to double upgrade.

Curious if any of the other majors allow double upgrading? I'll post the question.

PremEx is correct. No "technical" violation on UA's part as UA does not normally give these double upgrades and no one was trying to single upgrade from C to F. However, I asked, they looked at me and quickly decided I needed to eat the cookies and ice cream that was not being served in C or else risk disappearing down a shower drain. "Who am I to disagree?"

PremEx & auh2o: I certainly don't begrudge anyone being fortunate enough to get a 'comp double', especially one of the F-T'ers. But I think the one thing we would all hope for is fair, honest and consistent rules interpretation.

IMO it just seems like a far more positive PR gesture to comp the 1K's/PremEx's upfront over the UA non-rev's.

Auh20---for our education and elucidation, would you be willing to share the details of who and how you asked for the double upgrade?

It was great seeing you AuH20 and I figured if you are going to party at the PIP you need the right attire.

I have at least three shirts to choose from for my PIP festivities (and no, JAWS, not one of them is that alleged old and tattered shirt. EDDIE ripped it to shreads.)

Now getting somewhat on topic, once a few years ago on a U-A fgt to SFO because of an aircraft change and few seats and the fact I charmed the check-in girl I got a dobule upgrade to First.

the Plane was two class, then got switched to three.

It spoiled me for coach forever.

But I guess this double upgrade stuff is rare or for nice single guys and U-A employees.
