Thank you for an inspirational report. I'm a fellow " Channel rock" dweller and looking at the possibility of recreating a trip to HNL later this year for our 25th anniversary as this was our Honeymoon destination. My questions are how far in advance did you book to obtain that fantastic price and did you do it all through one website? Business class on Oneworld is preferable as I am not travelling for work now and would like to retain Silver.

thanks

Michael
Hello!

We booked in August, on the phone with BA. The route/flights/classes were all extracted from searches on ITA Matrix. Much hinges on when there's an ex-DUB sale, of course ... that's where Matrix is your friend, as it knows these things. You need to keep looking at threads here on FT, and poke Matrix to look at "see calendar of lowest fares" to get the answer you want - just search DUB-HNL. Getting JER-DUB is a separate issue, o course, and typically adds close to £1k for a couple in CE and a night-stop at DUB before you start!!

Feel free to PM for more info.

haha ... thank you!

The value of Gold is very variable, and depends on what YOU see in it, of course. 'Status' as such is meaningless, but the higher Avios earning rate, Lounge access across oneworld and First checkin may be beneficial.

Thanks for the report - we are doing a very similar trip in July - A question on the Dub-Phl element (which we are completing) will we also complete pre clearance and no immigration the other end?

Thanks

Everything is done at DUB ... Customs and Immigration, in a separate "US Enclave" within T2. At PHL you just arrive as if you were US Domestic pax, and start your long walk to the next gate for your onward sector.

Wow, this one got dragged from the depths of History! Thanks of reading!

As you mention it, OGG is booked for August, going to Ka'alapani

JER-UK-DUB//DUB-PHL-LAX//LAX-OGG ... oh, it's a long and tedious journey, but for GBP 1700 each in air fares, not a bad deal for J/F all the way.

We will be renting a vehicle for a few days, but I think we will let Roberts take us to our destination initally. I don't intend to do a lot of driving around, and have an aversion to paying for a vehicle sat idle in the parking lot!!

I shall refresh on my spelling before the trip. I'm still recovering from Stellenbosch and Franschhoek

Ha! It didn't exist then!

We are looking forward to testing it next month ... and thanks for reminding me it is now there. I must explore the threads!
