My pleasure, glad you found it interesting.

Like you, I've essentially given up on UuA. The ex-DUB options are, of course, somewhat dependent on how easily [and with whom] you can get to DUB in the first place ... it's a PITA from here outside the holiday season!

I guess my view on DUB was factored by the provision of decent outside smoking areas, and my inherent dislike of the chaos of LHR ;)

A330 was very pleasant in Business, and the 1-2-1 seating would be ideal for your family plan [put the kids in the centre pair]. But I have a suspicion you may not be flying Business.

I'm afraid I'm a complete softy and wouldn't do TATL in anything less than J if I could help it! So I am particularly interested in the review of the A330 J cabin. Sadly the sprogs like window seats so the wife and I will have to make do with the middle pair! Preclearance will be a huge advantage with kids - we have had a couple of very long waits at YYZ and BOS in recent years. Tolerable for adults but miserable with kids.

Getting to DUB is quite simple from GLA with fairly regular EI flights all year (albeit on a dodgy turboprop!).

And, yes, for a smoker I guess DUB has its advantages. There is abysmal provision of seating though if you do not have lounge access. I suppose we might get access for EI flights once they are bought by IAG.

I need to explore better routings than LHR/LGW, but the last time I looked the cheapest option was Flybe JER-SOU-DUB. Can I afford to lose the TPs? :D

Middle pair on the 330 looked decent, from what I saw, so you can talk to each other AND monitor the 'smalls' at the same time!

Lounge access ... we only used the T1 one, not sure what happens at T2 but the Lounge Guide suggests that's a bit more complex ...http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...l#post19761480

EI has a twice-a-week service on DUB-JER-DUB until the end of October. It resumes April 1st. Fridays and Sundays only. £68 one way from JER-DUB, but bizarrely over 350 EUR on the way back. I suppose that's the demand to go to JER for you ;)

We know that IAG has purchased EI in the hope of expanding their operations. So soon enough the service frequency might be increased and perhaps made year round. Probably not a candidate for the new EI blocked-middle-seat class, but who knows.

Plus, since you can spend your Avios on it, it becomes quite a neat and tidy solution. Once EI is back in oneworld you'll have access to the BA lounge on the outbound, hopefully you'll get the Emerald luggage allowance, and earn yourself a paltry few TPs if you pay the cash price.

Worth keeping an eye on, at any rate. ^

Indeed, my friend. Watching the EI evolvement with considerable interest, and quite happy to travel down the back if needs must for a short hop to DUB save a few ££, LGW/LHR transfers etc etc.

Curiously, JER-DUB with EI didn't show when I was looking at Matrix earlier today for next Jun/Jul ... all the cheap fares seemed to be JER-LCY-DUB and with horrendous layovers. I need to dig deeper, and ensure your dates are covered.

I have more work to do, and thanks for the tips. You are much better at exploring options than I am ^

The food on AA is very disappointing at the moment. Pretty much the same menu for First Class out of LHR currently too.

This food is definitely better than that served on BA transatlantic business currently.

Nice report. I particularly like the summary section with ratings :)

EI fares don't usually appear correctly on ITA. I am not sure if it is to do with them not being loaded to the GDS, but the lowest fares available on their website do not normally come up on ITA

Am booked on a DUB-CLT flight myself next year, don't fancy getting immersed in the AA Forum! Any tips on best seats on the A330?

The single window seats are our choice, but not the bulkhead row. I don't like gazing at a wall!

VERY agreeable hard product, good IFE, a view and easy aisle access. We can manage without talking to each other for 7 hours ... we do that every night when we're asleep ;)

I'll have to save this for another day - no longer on the AA route but back through the UK. Darn schedule changes by AA!

T8191 Jan 24, 2016 12:04 pm

AA seem to be having one of their periodic schedule changes ... they've just screwed another Ft-er on his return HNl-LAX sector.

however, keep checking ... you never know what AA will do next with Fleet Utilisation
