Wow, a story very different from most trip reports in this section, but nice to read
That person would be happy to see that you still remember his deed 8 years later.

I liked this story. What the man did was nice, and it's nice that the OP is genuinely grateful for his actions, even after all this time. Good stuff all around.

Indeed a lovely story!

There is a marvelous book of travel essays called "The Kindness of Strangers." There are some wonderful tales. One called "A Brief Encounter" is worth the price of the book.

This is such a charmingly-written story, I have tears in my eyes. What an incredible act of kindness ... and how it has resonated all these years. I bought a guy in a wheelchair who only had a hundred dollar bill his pastry and coffee at SFO last Saturday but a gesture this large completely floors me. Let's all pass it forward, our little acts of kindness can make an enormous difference.
