Thai or Thai Smile ? That is the question
After 2 months without getting off Phuket it was time to head to the bright lights and fleshpots of Krung Thep (BKK) for a 3 night break.
I usually stay with Starwood at either Aloft or 4 Points but this place had an offer on http://www.eastingrandsathorn.com/default-en.html which was decent value seeing as it offered 2 day passes to the Sky Train per person and is right on the system at Surasak so I decided to give them a go.
Next up was which airline? With the choice of Thai, Thai Smile, Bangkok Airways into BKK and of Air Asia, Nok Air and 12Go into DMK there was abundant availability for what is only a 1 hour flight.
However I dislike LoCos with a passion and Bangkok Airways doesn't offer business class on the route it was down to 2.
So why not do both?....OK, I will.... Thai on the way up and Thai Smile on teh way back down.
Cost wise there was about a 1K Baht difference between the two.

I knew what to expect on Thai as I have done this route several times.... I knew I could get a 747 with the old first seats

I knew I stood a change of getting on this lovely bird

I knew the lounge would be poor

But the hot breakfast on the flight would be decent, on real plates, with metal cutlery (albeit freezing cold steel) and properly presented.

There'd be silly things like Newspapers, hot towels and smiling staff.
And so it was to be but on an ageing A300/600....
However it got me there, feeling good to be away from work and looking forward to my long weekend.

Reception was cavernous and with few staff on duty at a busy morning checkout time it took a while but the room was ready so that was a bonus.

The view was great going all the way to the Chao Praya river at Sapin Taksin
