Wonderful trip report! Haneda airport has improved so much since last time I was there.

Thanks everyone!

Awesome report, great photos. And good on you for using the family pass like you do. I had one myself until I turned 25... it blew me away how seldom some employees' families used theirs. I have so many happy memories and did things that I simply couldn't do now if I had to pay for it all out of my pocket!

Great TR, awesome pics! Especially liked the ones with Mt. Fuji. Well, my plane to NRT (on BA HEL-LHR-NRT) leaves in about 12 hours, better get packing...

Given that this is strange (and wonderful) Japan, they actually do this for every flight departure, and not just for special occasions!

A great trip report--I'm glad you managed to make things work!

Very enjoyable trip, thank you for posting! I took a trip to Tokyo once from Thursday-Sunday and people thought I was crazy...I should have told them what you were planning to do!

The better way to do it as a Non-Rev was LAX-HND-DTW that way you had a full day in Tokyo... Sadly no longer an option.

Yep, they do this at NRT too. When you look out the window, you see the maintenance crew waving the plane.

Sigh, the US once used to be like this....like in the 1940s and 1950s! We've seem to have forgotten service does go a long way and now we have to travel to Japan to find out what we once lost.

Thanks everyone!

I didn't notice last time I was in NRT that the crew all waved, I honestly thought it was just the fact we were the last flight haha. What would you guys think of a full day trip to Singapore? Possible?

Awesome trip and report! :D Why didn't you take NRT-JFK, NRT-DTW, or NRT-MSP? You could've spent more time in NRT and still have made it back to TPA Sunday evening.

BTW, do you like eating sushi? If not, start practicing by taking trips to Manhattan and eating in the Japanese sushi bars. Then, eventually up your standards by only going Tokyo for the weekend to have sushi.

What an awesome TR. Yes total madness in the most positive way! Wonderful photos, you have an excellent eye for framing. Hope to see more of these. Cheers.

BTW, those seats on the N'EX (and pretty much most intercity trains in Japan) can be flipped 360 degrees so that 4 people can sit facing each other. The next time you come with your father and sister, that would be an option.

Out of curiosity are those N'EX seats the regular or "ordinary" ones? I think they look plenty nice if they are and can't see myself spending the extra for the leather "Green" seats for the journey.

Great report.^ I have to get to Tokyo one of these days.

Great TR!

Great report. I love the photo of the Subway map and your sheet of paper showing the transportation details of your entire trip. Very meticulous.
