I am reporting about my pre-ordered Japanese meal.

Appetizers were good. At first sight, I had to try and figure out what the main course was (and that it was the main course.) Turned out it was some sort of fish.

Very disappointed. What happened UA????

I agree that the Jpn meal on UA is not of very high quality
(especially the way they server rice was very poor), but
one thing you might not be aware of is that the meaning
of the 1st and 2nd dish (or main) might be different
from western meals.

I agree. I did this trip last year, thinking that the japanese meal would be awesome, but it wasn't that great:

I wonder if it's because it is a non-japanese caterer doing the food?

Plenty of good Japanese food in and around SFO, including at the airport. Methinks it is a "you get what you pay for" catering job, which apparently used to be quite good.

Before UA changed into current Washoku Zen meal, it was Bento, and it was everyone preferred choice of meal on every US-Japan flights. It was so popular that it often ran out if you don't pre-ordered it. Back then when C wasn't full, I had seen even FA would eat that Bento than anything else.
