My first first class upgrade! (and something else)
I just got back from a business trip in Phoenix, AZ. My departing flight Sunday morning at and 6 AM, and apparently nobody wanted to go at that time because I got upgraded to first!!!
Yeah I know it's only a two hour flight, but I learned to count my blessings
Truthfully I have been enjoying my 1P status so far (this is my first year). I have been able to sit at row 6 in A320/319 flights which is the first row of E+
Anyway we got there around 9 AM and drove to Wyndham in downtown Phoenix. I quickly realized that the downtown was empty. I mentioned this to my co-worker and he made a good point that it's still early. It turns out that that's not the reason. They whole area was empty all day and it's Sunday! One of my other coworkers that flew in the night before also made similar remarks. Come dinner time I decided to get some food and to bring to my room so I can eat while watching the NCAA tourney. (Purdue lost to VCU... bummer) So I walked around hoping that I can find some local restaurants to try on. Guess what? They're all closed!!!!! So I ended up getting a burger from Hooters. Don't judge me.
I was there for the IEEE convention that was held in Phoenix convention center. During the convention I met a a girl from China. She said that she flew alone representing the University where she's getting her Phd. She came alone because nobody wanted to go and had to pay some of the cost herself. After the welcome gathering we went back to our hotel and was surprised that she didn't stay at the hotel. She stayed at Super 8 motel to save cost.
Now at these kind of conventions they have giveaways everyday for those attendees that visited the booth exhibits. For this one they raffled 1 iPad2 everday. Being one of the exhibitors I didn't have much chance to enter the raffle (you have to get 10 signatures each day).
On the 3rd day when it's slow I finally managed to get 10 signatures to enter the raffle. Guess who won? The girl that I met won it! When her name was announced she was literally jumping for joy. Me and some of my coworkers that knew her story just couldn't help but smiling. In anyone deserves to get the iPad it's her
This is probably the first time I'm actually more happy that somebody else but me won at something.
So Qingxin Li, if you happen to read this post by the oddest chance... congrats on the iPad, enjoy the rest of the stay in US and have a safe trip back home!
