Across the Congo in a 4WD

This isn't my trip, it's not on Flyertalk, and the writer's first language is not English... but it's the most fascinating trip report I've read in a good long while: ~1600km from Lubumbashi to Kinshasa along Congo Route Nationale 1, where the good bits look like this:

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...kinshasa-53285

And the excruciating thing? The trip report is incomplete! (But in progress, with new updates daily...)

An amazing and riveting journal of this couple. It's refreshing to see a "trip report" that's not about first class suites and Dom served in First Class, or to hear a complaint on why someone's steak wasn't rare enough served at 35,000 feetThanks so much to the OP for posting this link. I've spent the better half of my lunch hour reading their entries and it's amazing everything they have experienced. I know for sure I could not have survived a tenth of what they have endured and it really makes us re-think all the things we take for granted like running water, toilets, and a bed seem like a luxury. The level of corruption there is astounding and I thought it was bad in India! But seeing how this couple refused to pay bribes has inspired me to stand up to corruption when I visit India because I am like a foreigner there, despite being Indian but grew up here in Chicago since I was 2 year sold. Anyways a must read for everyone and I can't wait to read their next installment.

Awesome - thanks for linking to this.

I thought my recent travels in Africa were adventurous... (two breakdowns in one day, and got stuck in the mud once)...

Compared to this, my trip looks like a TransPac in SQ F!!!

I've signed up for the forum on which the TR is posted just so i can get instant email notifications of further additions to it. Its brilliant!! The writer's competence in several languages is enviable, as is their mental strength not to let the epic difficulties get to them. Amazing and inspirational read :-)

I found another fascinating trip report about two Australian brothers who started in Cape Town and ended up on the east coast of Russia. This time on motorcycles.

Their blog postings are a bit disjointed, but still a very entertaining read.

it really is fascinating, isn't it? I've read it once and I think i'll read it once more for any details I may have missed.
