Post Ultra-Mini Trip With a Tiger

This is only my first trip report, and because it's been ages since I've actually done a long(er) flight it's only a small one compared to the likes of, say, one FTer who comes to mind, who travelled around the world with 20+ flights! Furthermore, it's been months since I've flown too, unfortunately. However, I'm eagerly awaiting my next takeoff in early December.

Back in early February this year I travelled with Tiger Airways for the first time, MEL to ADL return. I often fly MEL - ADL because I've got friends and family over there, but this time TT had the cheaper flights and, anyway, it was a chance to fly on something new. About $130 all up I think it was.

Departure was from Tullamarine, February 3, on TT893 at 9:10am. Tiger Airways has its own terminal, which reminds me of AVV: a little tin pot shed. lol It was an early morning start, because I live almost 1.5 hours drive from the MEL, and with a 45 minute deadline for the checkin, I had to break myself away from my warm, cosy bed before 6am.

I hadn't chosen my seats when I bought my tickets online, so you can imagine my joy when they allocated me seat 1F! Nice legroom, right at the very front of the plane and of course a window seat. Nowadays, when you book online, if you want to choose a seat in that same row you have to pay $30.... not to mention all the other little fees here and there. Super-cheapo airlines certainly do NOT loose any money - they do have their little sneaky ways of emptying your wallet.

I decided to save my money and not buy any snacks for a change. But, if you really want to see the la carte: CLICK HERE!
May I hasten to add that their soft drink is 50 cheaper than JetStar.

I found the cabin crew to be very friendly and chirpy, and, unlike some people, they actually seemed to enjoy their job, which meant that the passengers enjoyed their flight. Nice new airplanes too. As for the seats themselves, I must admit that I do prefer JetStar's leather seats!

Return flight was on February 9, on TT523, departing ADL at 3pm and scheduled to arrive in MEL at 4:45pm. Turns out it was a jolly good thing I was in no hurry, because there was almost a 3 hour delay sitting on my butt at ADL. The story: the plane was to come from Alice Springs and then go on to MEL, but one of the cabin crew was sick and apparently its against regulations to fly with less than the minimum number of crew members. So, they put together a crew in MEL, grabbed a plane and brought it over to ADL, picked us up and flew back to MEL. Arrival: just before 7pm!

Overall, not too bad apart from the delay. Next time I do a trip report I'll have to remember to take some photos to spice things up!
