Acela Trip Report

Mods: feel free to move this..I searched but didn't find a reviews thread so if it is here, I apologize!

Took 2151 from PHL to BAL today using points. (I know-kind of a waste of points, but I didn't want to fork out close to $200 and I am not really saving them for anything....) My one prior experience with Acela was in Business on a Saturday and well, to say that it was a miserable trip is an understatement.

I relaxed for about 90 minutes in Club Acela at 30th street. Decent speed on the free internet, clean, comfortable, the attendant was pleasant-I was happy.

Boarded the train after heading to the platform via the elevators in the lounge. Quickly found a single seat, got comfy and mere moments later the attendant came by with the menu. I was ready for 'brunch' so I got the potato pancakes with Canadian bacon, applesauce and fresh melon along with coffee. This arrived within 5 minutes of leaving PHL. I must say, I cleaned my plate. The attendant said 'I also brought you a water" just in case.

Very clean car, nice crew (the few I ran into), no stench of stale food, no screaming rug rats-I was in heaven. The restrooms also looked clean as well.

Too bad the trip was only an hour-I could easily have stayed on til WAS then turned around and headed back to Boston!! All rail travel should be that nice!

Thanks for the report, megtavels! There isn't a trip report thread in the AGR forum, but we do have an entire forum dedicated to Trip Reports, so I'll move this thread over there.

You took the Acela from Philly to Baltimore? And used points? (Although $200 is absolutely ridiculous...you could rent a car cheaper.)

That breakfast did sound good, though.

Acela First Class is very nice. I take it all the time between NYC and WAS. Worth the extra money. I don't eat the food, but it is nice to know it is there just in case. They are very generous with drinks. I can hardly walk by the time I arrive at my destination
