I trusted him because he is a trained expert in the field - it's his job to know this stuff and do it every day, and he's licensed by an organization I trust in.
Same with a pilot. Yes, pilot's have been wrong, just as doctors have been at times. But I still have much more faith in their ability to assess the airworthiness of an aircraft than I do.
You're always free to get off a plane if you don't feel comfortable, just like getting a second opinion. But from a factual, logical standpoint, it's hard to argue that you know better then the pilot. I never have and can't foresee a situation where I would.

No. There are so many safety requirements that the captain needs to comply with that I trust we'll only leave if the problem is truly fixed. Sometimes I get frustrated with the need for the crew to "fill out some paperwork" every time they need to do even the most minor repair -- then it occurs to me that the documentation requirements are there for everybody's safety.
And remember, if the plane goes down, it affects the captain too....

[QUOTE=ragde77;11754087Do you get mad when you are asked to switch planes because of some failure? In my case, I was very OK with it, even though I had a previous flight delayed & cancelled earlier that day.[/QUOTE]
I may be a little annoyed but definitely not as mad as I probably would be if the previously known failure manifests itself on take off.
