Passport damage..

I wouldn't say my passport is incredibly damaged. Basically I fell asleep with my passport in my pocket one night (a very stupid night) and it was open on one of the inner blank pages...and the weight of my body kind of forced the seams of the passport so you can see some of the red string or whatever they used to hold the passport together...it's kind of weird. The pages are fine the picture and everything is fine, it's just this one page which is a bit deranged on the inner seam in between the two pages. I dont know whether it's worth renewing the passport as I plan to travel to US (from UK) in June. Just how strict are they about this?

You're fine. Just close the passport and put it under a heavy book.

I put my passport through the laundry and dryer about three years ago. I dried it out and flattened under The Complete Far Side for a few weeks. I've had no problems using it anywhere except entering the UK. At boarding (YYZ), the doc checker had to get supervisor approval, and at Passport Control at LHR they stamped it after a bit of hesitation.

If it makes any difference the passport is Canadian and I do not (how do you say this PC) have an ethnic or linguistic background that would suggest my passport could be potentially illegitimate.
