Baggage Fees - Whose Apply On Codeshare?

I'm flying next week (EWR to DFW) using CO miles but on a Delta flight. (First time I've used miles, btw.) Unavoidably, I'll have a large trunk, which I should be able to keep under 70 pounds.

Continental's site says:
When a customer travels on a codeshare flight or on an aircraft operated by a SkyTeam Alliance partner, then the policy regarding checked bags follows the rules determined by the originating operating carrier.
Who's the "originating operating carrier?" The fees are much more expensive on Delta.

With Continental's fees, it's cheaper to take the trunk with me than to ship it...but Delta's fees may make it a toss-up.

The outbound flight also involves changing planes in Cincinnati, but I'm assuming I only have to pay the baggage fees once.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

It is based on whoever you check in with. If it is CO metal from EWR-CVG then you check in with CO and pay the fees based on that. If it is DL metal from EWR-CVG then you check in with DL and pay the fees they charge.

As long as the bag is checked all the way through to your final destination you only pay the fee once. If you were spending the night at CVG and collected your bag there then you would pay the fee twice, though some have claimed that a forced overnight and first flight out would not require such. That would probably depend a bit on the carrier.

I'd bet that you are going to pay the big fee with DL based on what you've described.

Thanks. That's what it looks like to me, too, since it's Delta all the way. And I've re-examined "unavoidable" and may come up with something else.
