online checking in mixed carrier CO/AA

Hi,

A first post here and hoping to get some help on this one.

I'll be flying from Cleveland to Chicago on Continental and then connecting (2 hrs) to American onward to Detroit. The reservation is all on one ticket.
Will I have to check in seperately with both airlines? Will my checked bags go all the way to destination?

I appreciate your help.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!!

Continental should check your bag all the way through to DTW. They may not be able to give you a boarding pass, but you should be able to pick that up from a service desk in O'Hare without going land-side. Make sure you have the details of the onward flight with you at the check-in counter, get there a bit earlier than normal and be polite about the situation. Technically the CO agent does not have to do it, but my experience has always been that they will.

Thanks for the info....I guess I could also go onto each of the airline websites and do an online check in 24hrs in advance seperately?

You can definitely do that for the CO flight. I'd be hesitant to do it for the AA flight as I am not sure how that would affect the ability to get your bag checked through. Someone else may know that bit better than me.
