that old "price sensitive" saw

It's often commented everywhere that business travellers are less price-sensitive than vacation travellers. I don't think it's true anymore though. We should dispell that old rumor.

For example, it's pretty well-known that small companies are price sensitive because they're still trying to maximize their profit margins to become a healthy or growing business. But I work for a fortune 500 company that employs around 200,000 people across the country, and I can tell you that my company is *extremely* price sensitive. When I'm on personal travel, I may decide on a case by case basis whether it's worth it to me to pay for first class airline seats or whatever. But my company *never* allows me to fly first class. They have blanket policies regarding pricing of travel accomodations, per diems, and allowed expenses. In fact, it goes beyond travel - we recently discovered we're not allowed to make international calls from our office phones despite the fact that we support international customers!

Wouldn't it be nice if we can get rid of the old saying? (Yes, it makes me feel bad - haha!)

I think it's an averages thing - I work for a company like yours - All economy, all the time, always the cheaper hotel etc.

However, I believe that "on average" the business traveller is less price sensitive than a personal traveller.

"On average" a business traveller might choose schedule over price etc.
