Flights to Inauguration EXPENSIVE!!!!

Just out of curiosity I looked at pricing for the Obama inauguration.

First United has not changed out equipment on ord-DCA (which is probably dumb)

But the rates are already up there. $778 leaving monday Jan. 19, returning the 21st, $440 returning the 20th at night (sorry no inauguration ball for you)

I'm not surprised. Supply, demand and all.

Do you think you're the only one flying in and out those days?

Prices will probably be lower if you use BWI. Not ideal, but if you can save more than $120 (typical cost of r/t taxi to the District) on airfare, it would be worth pursuing that angle.

FWIW, DL changed equipment on the ATL-DCA route for some flights around the inaguration date.

If you can get to DC you will not be able to find a place to stay.

I live in dc. I was just curious to look. There are wild estimates about the number of people coming. First it was 1 million, then 1 million to 2 million, then up to 4 million.

But there is nothing to base the numbers on. Once you get past counting the hotel rooms, it's all wild ... guessing

$778 is high, but $440 isn't so high. I've done several DCA-ORD this fall with one night stays (e.g., departure on Tues, return on Weds) with a couple of weeks advance notice. Fares were in the $400-$500 range.

Agreed. I've done the DCA-ORD r/t 5 times over the past 3 months with one night stays every time. Prices are consistanly between $400-$600. It's a VERY business heavy route, it can support higher prices I suppose.

Yeah, for those of us in DC NOT attending the ceremony, going out of town that weekend and coming back on Tuesday is quite a bargain. Combine that with renting my apartment in Rosslyn out and it sounds like a deal.

Right.

Fly into BWI, tickets easily half the cost to DCA. Take the B-30 bus to the Greenbelt Metro station, then the Metro to where you are going in Washington DC. Metro ride well work $400.

As a DC resident, I'm looking forward to bargain fares for flying FROM the inauguration. A nice four-day weekend away from the crowds.

Just like they predicted 1 million in Chicago on election night. It was then 500,000 and then 150,000 actually turned up. The media hypes it up (along with your airfare).

what do you want UA to upgauge it too? all 757s? that's the biggest plane that can get into DCA.

DCA generally is more expensive to get into anyway...try IAD, then BWI.
