Window. This is so I can sleep the majority of the flight.
|
I'm 6'4... When flying F or exit row I will go window, otherwise aisle, and if I'm flying with my wife who is very petite I will put her on window and sit in the middle, putting the armrest up and sticking one of my legs under the seat in front of her.
|
Window for me, too. So I can sleep without other passengers trying to squeeze past me when they get up to use the lavatory. The latter is the really issue, since I can sleep in any seat -- I have the ability to remain perfectly upright while sleeping, a skill I acquired by taking some excruciatingly dull sociology classes in college.

Window is best. You can lean against the wall and sleep easier. :)

Aisle so I can get to the bathroom w/o stepping over other people. Redeyes definitely window.
|
I prefer the aisle in almost every situation. I like being able to get out of my seat easily and being able to get items out of the overhead bin as often as I like thus keeping items in the overhead until I need them.
|
One of my favorite things about the aisle- being able to reach above while seated & belted in, open the overhead compartment and pull out my laptop mid-flight. Nice to be able to to this at the 10K chime, when we're supposed to be seated! Easier to do on dash 8's... but doable usually on 737's (for myself)

I'm usually a window person, but lately i've been less comfortable - particularly if i sit on the right side of the plane. Maybe my body just doesn't bend that way - or i'm getting bigger.
Also, one definite disadvantage of a window is flying through a storm. I'm a smidge of a nervous flyer in the first place (ok, my first trip i had to be drugged and do breathing exercises but i've since flown around quite a bit with minimal trauma) I've been completely oblivious to storms and big bumps and drops from turbulence when i'm playing Sudoku on the aisle. However, if i'm by the window and that strobe-light effect starts from going through heavy clouds I immediately notice, get a knot in my stomach, and I think every little bump will be the "big one." |
Middle seat is best for shielding from cosmic radiation because the bodies of those beside you will absorb some of it for you :-)
|
I can't imagine anyone preferring a middle seat. Even traveling with Mr.onlyairfare, we take across-the-aisle seat, or window + aisle in hopes of leaving the middle seat empty (not happening much these days).
I prefer the window if I might attempt to sleep, or if there are interesting sights to see (I'm a fan of the Greenland icebergs too!). Very long flights, I'd prefer the aisle so I can get up easily to use the lav or just walk around a bit, keep the blood flowing. |
THE MIDDLE FOR SURE --- so I could bother BOTH of my seat mates.
Just kidding... Like any other amazing FTers said, it all depends. I like to take window if I know I will sleep. |
In my younger days I always opted for a window. Now I only do windows on short hauls, and select aisles otherwise for easy access to the lav, stretching my legs, etc.
My now-adult daughter, who grew used to leaning on my shoulder to sleep during a flight, now selects only window seats when she travels on her own, so she can lean on the window to sleep. Strangers seem to mind if she leans on them. |
I'm a window person. I try to board as early as I can so I can settle in and not disturb the aisle or middle.
I like the window b/c i can see when we are about to take off better than from the aisle. I rarely get up. I've had a few aisle seats in my life, but the extra space is just perceived and it's shared space with the cart and other people waltzing up and down the aisle. The A side window is mine. |
Window all the way! You can lean against it to take a nap and its always a thrill to see snow capped mountain ranges, desert dunes, or cargo ships in the middle of the ocean as you fly thousands of feet up in the air..it makes you really appreciate just how big and vast the world is and you're just a tiny part of it, hurtling through the air in an aluminum tube:)
