Airports with free internet [Master thread]

I was passing through the CVG-Cincinnati terminal C this weekend and noticed free internet in all four corners. There was a counter with five positions to Connect and Recharge your laptops with wired internet ports. Had I realized it was available I might have lugged my computer along with me since I had a few hours to kill there. I also remembered passing through an Asian airport, SIN or HKG, that had free kiosks.

This inspired me to start a thread of airports with free internet for us lowly folks that do not have access to airline clubs on a regular basis. I will try to keep this up to date, somewhat like the where we all come from thread. I will look at people’s posts along the way and add them to a list at the top.

I am only looking for free access for the lowly folks, not the paid hotspots or kiosks. It can be wired or wireless. I’ll steal the information that I see from a 2000 thread in TravelBuzz and one from a couple of months ago in Travel Tech. If this works I will keep it up, if no one is interested I’ll let it drop away.

Please post in this format:

Airport------------Location-----Type---------------------Quantity of stations----As of:
CVG-Cincinnati----Terminal C----Wired laptop locations----4 Sets of 5-------------Aug 05

Cheers, MCRT

Thanks to slippahs for providing me with the link http://www.wififreespot.com/airport.html This one is great if you have your wi-fi laptop with you.

Mods, I am posting this in TravelBuzz to start, if you feel it is better in Travel Tech feel free to move it.

LAS - free wireless access throughout all terminals.
**just requires "your" email for access... so give a "real" address ;)

Singapore Changi Airport.
Everywhere in both terminals.
Wireless and Wired (Desktops available for free internet).
Plenty of internet stations available.
Available since: I don't know. Last year possibly??

stut Aug 9, 2005 1:49 am

VIE has free wireless throughout. It is still marked as a trial, but for a trial, it's been going on for the last 3 years...

Coathanger Aug 9, 2005 2:09 am

Seconded for SIN (though T2 has much faster access speeds). Approx 20 computers in T2 alone, with extra desks for those with laptops.

SYD, Departures & Arrival Halls (Landside), wired PC stations, 6 PCs in each hall, approx 12 months.

Thanks for that link. I will add it at the top tonight when I have more time. I am also looking for free wired and free kiosks.

Saw a sign yesterday in ROC advertising free wi-fi in the free business center in the terminal. I didn't try it as I was running a bit late so I cannot vouch for its speech, reliability etc etc.

AVP (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA) - free wireless

ABQ - free wireless throughout the terminals.

Bump. I guess if there is little interest in this it can pass to the history books but for now we'll try it again.

travelmad478 Aug 18, 2005 8:21 pm

ICN (Seoul). There are free internet-enabled computers, plenty of them with very few users, at several locations upstairs--on the floor level where the airline lounges are located. I don't know about wireless access (didn't have my laptop when I passed through there in June).

There's definite interest in this. Since I just got a laptop w/ WIFI (thank you work ^ ), this would help me decide which airports to fly through on my MRs. It'll definately help pass that boring hour or two a little faster. I'll definately add to this thread as I go on some upcoming MRs.

Thanks for starting it.

A rather obscure one: TSR - (Timisoara in Romania) has free wireless internet access throughout.

Viajero Perpetuo Aug 19, 2005 3:12 am

SCL - Santiago, Chile

It is wireless though not available in the entire International terminal after immigration and security. Also available at the Gatsby restaurant in the main public terminal which actually sits on top of the portion of the International terminal where the signal seems to be the strongest. Don't know about the national terminal as I have not been in that section in a long while.

exerda Aug 19, 2005 10:57 am

ROA (Roanoke, VA) has free wireless in the entire terminal building, plus power outlets along the walls in the gate areas. It also has three or four free wired stations outside of security and to the right that have phones, power, and I believe ethernet ports. This is as 7/05.

MHH (Marsh Harbour, Bahamas) has free wireless in the entire terminal building (such that it is), but very little in the way of power options. NAS (Nassau, Bahamas) also has free wireless from BaTelCo, but it was not functional last time I was there (1/05).

Abidjan Aug 19, 2005 11:17 am

Pensacola, FL airpot has free wi-fi, at least as of April 2005

WiFi is available in allterminals.

Internaut Aug 20, 2005 7:00 am

MAN has free wireless but I've only used it in Terminal Chav (2).

gnaget Aug 20, 2005 1:56 pm

DAY (DAyton, OH) even has free clubs with PC terminals. Nominally you are supposed to have som affiliation but it's an honor system.

There is wireless and wired ethernet laptop stations in the clubs. I think the Wifi is only within the range of the clubs. But there are also free PC stations and ethernet around the terminal. For example next to some C gates that US Air operates from.

SkiAdcock Aug 20, 2005 9:57 pm

Well I'm interested! Thanksmcrt. Cheers.

PS - good seeing you at SeaDo!

JBLUA320 Aug 21, 2005 5:37 am

Does Frankfurt have any free wi-fi folks? I think they have an INtel WiMax trial but I'm not 100% sure.

mcrt Aug 21, 2005 11:10 am

I'm glad to see there is interest. Updated through this post.

Jenbel Aug 21, 2005 3:58 pm

another obscure one TRF (Sandefjord/Torp, Norway) - international departures - free kiosks - but Apr 04...

jahason Aug 22, 2005 5:43 am

Karachi (KHI), Lahore (LHE), Islamabad (ISB) all have free internet terminals. Have to give an e-mail address (so that you can receive advertising e-mails) and then its for a limited time (30 min?). The e-mail address given does not have to be a real one.

JeremyZ Aug 24, 2005 3:12 pm

Eagle-Vail (EGE) in Colorado has free wireless access throughout the whole airside terminal.

jsmeeker Aug 24, 2005 5:45 pm

I want to know which airline clubs offer free WiFi. It certainly isn't the AA Admiral's Club.

DCA Blondie Aug 24, 2005 11:33 pm

GSP has signs up in the terminal advertising they have free wi-fi. I haven't tried to use it yet though... maybe on my next trip there in a few weeks I'll check it out.
