I've had the cordelli experience - the same people to/from a cruise. Also, my fiancee claims to have spotted a person in MCO yesterday that was on our flight down from CLE, but I couldn't see them.

In about 1988 or so, I flew SFO-HKG and sat next to an interesting couple that were in advertising (IIRC). We chatted much of the way across the Pacific.
I then spent about a week in HKG, then flew HKG-DXB-BAH-HKG over the next 10 days. On the way back to SFO I sat next to the same couple. Oh - and my SFO-HKG-SFO flights were non-rev. On a different occasion I flew SFO-SVO and there was a rather happy/bouncy guy walking around the cabin as part of a big group of friends going to Armenia. After spending 4 days in Moscow, and a week in Tbilisi, I ran into this guy in a hotel lift in Yerevan. |
When I was commuting LAX-LHR every 3 weeks I used to see the same woman on the flights on a pretty frequent basis. We often sat next to each other in J and naturally got talking several times.

For a couple months last year, I flew PHL-DFW weekly - out on Monday back on Thursday. I would see a core group of 4 or 5 people every Monday on the flight out but only one guy on my flight back on Thursday.
Last time I was at Disney World, there was the same family on the flight down and on the flight back. |
Last year my son and I were flying ATL-GCM for a dive trip in First on Delta (morning flight). A couple of rows ahead of us a guy proceeded to down screwdriver after screwdriver and became loudly and obnoxiously drunk, basically tormenting his poor seatmate who was trapped in the window seat. A week later on the return flight there he was again. Once again he got smashed and tormented his trapped seatmate. My son and I have joked about it ever since but I bet the poor people who paid first class fare to sit next to this jerk weren't very amused :td:

Last couple of cruises I've taken I've run into people on the plane on the way to the ship that were going on the same cruise. Generally they've been on different planes coming back, but I'd run into them all week on the ship. I suppose in abstract it's not completely surprising when I'm flying out of Detroit to a place like San Juan, but it was a little more surprising when I was flying out of Flint on a commuter jet.

I've had it happen on Continental with their weekend e-saver tickets. Went to Quebec City and there was a couple that followed us there and back on the same flights. And somehow, I thought I was the only one that didn't mind a last minute vacation! :)
I've also seen the same people to/from Las Vegas that were attending the same conference I was. |
Once did a trip to the west coast (ATL-SFO) from Friday to Thursday the following week. I was there for work and brought my wife and daughter along to hang out with friends. On the way there, noticed a Japanese family (mom, dad, daughter about our daughter's age) at the gate. Lost them in the terminal, but bumped into them again on the shuttle to rental car counters. On the return, they were waiting at the gate to return to ATL. Who does a Friday-Thursday trip anyway??? :)
Back in 1992, was returning back home to Atlanta from Seoul. Saw a guy who looked somewhat familiar in the terminal at SEL (airport code for Kimpo back then, I think), but thought nothing of it. Noticed him getting on the same flight as me to LAX. Lost him when we deplaned, but there he was again at the gate to fly to ATL. A couple of weeks later, I saw the guy at church. Approached him and confirmed that he was, in fact, the same guy I had noticed in SEL and LAX. He thought he recognized me as well, but didn't say anything. |

A few times...the most memorable was a fellow who sat next to me on the outbound ORD-AMS. Several times during the flight he put the blanket over his head and made horrendous snorting noises for five or ten minutes. Then he would re-emerge and start talking again as if nothing had happened. It was very odd...
On the way back I saw him in baggage claim, and he said if he had known I was on the flight he'd have changed seats to sit next to me again. So thank goodness he didn't see me at check-in LOL... |
Several times...
A few years ago I was flying back to the UK for Xmas, there was a couple also having dinner in the lounge at IAD before the flight. Both husband and wife wore crushed purple velour sweatsuits (coincidental since I just mentioned them in another thread as being ugly garments!) and sat a few seats from me. They were on my return flight (in matching baby blue crushed sweatsuits!) eight days later. On the same LHR-IAD flight as blue sweatsuit couple I was speaking with a flight attendant for some time. (He'd helped to clean up a glass of wine that had slipped) I saw him six weeks later on a CPT-LHR flight. Back in 2004 I flew LHR-SFO in Club World where the seats face eachother. For 13hrs (there was a ground delay) and I sat across the emergency exit from another chap, we never said a word but three days later he jumps on the cable car right next to me. We both recognise eachother and strike up pleasant 'stranger conversation'. |
Strangest was sharing a train compartment from Shanghai to Changsha with a Chinese guy..and then bumping into him in Guilin a week later at the next table in a Korean restaurant. 1.1 billion people..and I see one of them twice!

The only times I've had this happen on a plane have been during MRs. It's pretty obvious on a turnaround in and out of LAS or SAN!
Outside of a plane, my husband (boyfriend at the time) did the Eurail thing around Europe the summer after college. Over the course of several weeks, we ran into the same Japanese couple (about our ages) in Barcelona, Carcassone, Nice, Florence, and Rome! It's an obvious tourist track, but it was strange to have been on exactly the same pace. |
Not really same return, but when I went to ORD in April I sat next to this nice woman in F, and I went back to ORD in June and saw the same woman, in the same seat as before right next to me. I had 1B, she had 1A (UA). So not the actual return flight for that trip, but a return from ORD. Flights were SEA-ORD, ORD-SEA. Really weird.
