Need Help With Trip Insurance
I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but I am going to take a chance and ask it. Normally when we travel in the US we do not purchase extra trip insurance. We have health insurance, and airline luggage insurance is adequate.
We are leaving in a few weeks for Europe and the near east. I think I need to have, at the minimum, some type of medical evacuation insurance. I do not know if I need trip interruption insurance. I have not pre-paid for any type of formal tour except for my plane tickets.
I have looked at the internet and there are so many policies that offer so many different things. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific type of product and perhaps even a prefered carrier?
Thank you for your assistance.
Fran

I've bought like 6 of these and I always go with AIG Assist because of the brand recognition anywhere. Thanks God that I have never had the need to use them so I can't tell you more specifics but I always try to buy insurance with at least unlimited medical expenses and emergency evacuation; if you have the means to buy something better go for it but all the incidents that I've had with my airline (cancellations, long delays) are usually taken care promptly and efficiently that I haven't had to use insurance.

For evacuation insurance only check out www.medjetassist.com. I have carried this insurance for years but fortunately have not had to use it. You may buy it yearly or for one trip.

Any particular reason you need the extra insurance? What are you afraid will happen?
Medical evac insurance??
Are you planning to free climb the Matterhorn or cross the Sinai on foot?
At least know this about trip insurance - read the policy carefully because they are full of exclusions. The number one goal of trip insurance claims people seems to be to explain to customers why they are not covered.

Accidents can happen everywhere and some injuries which are easily dealt with at home can be very problematic if you are in a foreign country. Treatment can become very expansive and getting home quite difficult. Even flying with a broken leg can be very complicated and expansive. So it makes sense to get a travel health insurance or a medical transport insurance.

gre - there are instances where people have had to put out almost $100,000 to be brought home from a foreign land. If you are in even a serious automobile accident would you want to spend months in a foreign hospital. And, what of your family - wouldn't you want to be home with them or them to have you home.
