Fare / Ticketing Question

I understand that tickets need to be re-priced at the currently prevalent fare levels (regardless of the fare at the time of ticket issue, many months ago), if any changes are made to the first flight coupon (e.g. change of date).

What is the EXACT rule in this regard? If the first coupon is a domestic flight (of an international journey), can I fly it as originally ticketed but change the second (or third) coupon which is actually the first international flight, without re-pricing the itinerary?

For instance, if I was booked IAD-JFK-BOS-LHR-DEL-NRT, and fly IAD-JFK as originally booked, can I then go ahead and change BOS-LHR to a different date, without having to re-price the ticket?

Can someone please give me a DEFINITIVE answer? No guesses, please!

If you want a definitive answer, call the airline.

If it is a through fare IAD - somewhere that is not JFK with a stopover at JFK, then you will not need to reprice. If it is one fare IAD-JFK and another one from JFK onwards then you will need to.

It depends on the fare. Some fares, such as RTW fare can only avoid refare after first intercontinental segment. @:-) For some fares, it is after first stopover point, not transit point. There is no definitive answer without definitive fare rules.

Thanks, it is a through fare from IAD to a point in Asia.

So does that mean that if I fly IAD-JFK as booked originally, I can change subsequent flight dates without re-pricing?

I just saw this thread, but I feel I need to say this--
You should reread the first response....and every other on this thread. We aren't all magical travel agents who will know your fare rules, etc.
Why can't you call the airline or the travel agent to find your difinitive answer?

golmaale,

Welcome to FT.

This should really be posted in the forum for the airline that this pertains to, but unfortunately haven't mentioned which one that would be.

So I'm moving this to TravelBuzz as it certainly is not related to Mileage Run Deals.

Thanks,

There are thousands, or more, of different fares from IAD to "a point in Asia" via various airlines. There is no definitive answer without definitive fare rules.

Welcome to FT!

The rule will certainly depend on the airline.

For a given airline, it may depend on the fare class.

I would suggest you do two things, aside from calling the airline:

1. Post in this thread with the airline and, if you know it, the fare class (or at least something about it: deep-discount economy? full F? in between?)

2. PM a moderator (names at the bottom right of the main page for this forum) or click the Report Bad Post icon on one of your posts (red triangle with exclamation point, looks like a vertical line in small sizes, inside it under your name) to ask that this thread be moved to that airline's forum. That's where the folks who know the answer, if anyone here does, hang out.
