AMEX Insurance Question

Hey folks,
I did a lot of searching on FT regarding travel insurances but still wasn't sure of this question...

With buying my ticket for a 6 week SE Asia trip with my AMEX, is there really a need for additional travel insurance (aside for health insurance depending on your needs). I was looking at AMEX's website and talked to the reps on the phone and they said that the following benefits are automatically included with all cards:

Flight Insurance, Baggage protection and travel delay protection - the details are on this website https://www152.americanexpress.com/fsea/travel/hub.do

Am I missing something or is this coverage sufficient?

You may want to click through on all those coverages, many, if not all are not inculded, but an extra cost.

$9.95 per Covered Person per Covered Trip when you purchase a Scheduled Airline ticket with your enrolled Card.

Premiums start as low as $4.99 per Covered Trip, per Covered Person ($4.50 for NY residents).

etc.

You need to enroll in each of those coverages, and every time you purchase tickets or whatever, they will charge you the premium.

Insurance, just about every type is a total waste of money if you don't use it. It's invaluable if you need it and don't have it.

You need to find your comfort level between those two extreams to see where it works best for you.

Start with whatever coverages you have. Then consider which is the primary coverage for everythign you are looking for, and then see what the prices for it all works out to be.

www.insuremytrip.com is a good site to compare many of the options out there side by side.

It really depends on which Amex card you have. The Hilton HHonors Amex includes $100,000.00 in flight insurance, but no baggage coverage or trip cancellation coverage. The Citi AAdvantage Amex, on the other hand, includes $1,000,000.00 flight insurance coverage, lost (but not delayed) baggage insurance coverage that is secondary to the common carrier's liability, and trip cancellation coverage.
