Will UA and others profit from AA baggage fee?
Is it possible that passengers (non AA status) might decide to book with other airlines and shun AA because of the baggage fee?
If UA, NW, Cont etc postpone following suit and choose not to add this baggage fee, is it possible they could see an increase in passenger bookings?
Everyone seems so certain the other airlines will follow AAs lead, isn't it possible they might take advantage of this ill-conceived policy?

Other airlines are going to do much the same thing.
Had to book flights yesterday. Noticed a serious increase in prices from a few days before.
You pay one way, you pay the other. Still have to pay for the fuel price increases.
The bag charges don't affect me because I have status on AA (thanks FT!) but I can see chaos for boarding.

I'm Platinum on AA and I think this was deplorable (and wrote to them to say so, not that it will do a lot of good).
If the others don't follow, I wonder if the method to AA's madness would be that they lose the price-sensitive once-a-year vacationers and keep their Elites. It's the occasional fliers, especially the families, who will get hurt by this and might look for other airlines.
