baggage allowances on code-share flights?

I'll be doing a lot of traveling in Europe this summer and am going to try to travel with a carry-on-sized bag only since I'll be doing a lot of air travel and don't want to risk lost luggage. I thought this plan was a great one until I checked the carry-on weight allowances of Alitalia, which I have booked 2 short flights on (between France and Italy). I found out that the weight allowance for carry-on baggage is only 5 kg. on Alitalia (vs. 12 kg. or more on my other flights). I have booked the TICKETS through Alitalia, but the planes are actually operated by Air France, and I have been instructed to check in with the Air France ticket counters. My question is, will I likely be held to Air France's standards for baggage weight, or Alitalia's?? Anyone have any experience with this?

(And yes, I know... I may have more problems with the Alitalia ticket by the time the summer rolls around, depending on whether Alitalia still exists by then!!! But let's just deal with one issue at a time!!)

Thanks in advance,
Jenn
