E That's hilarious... I actually said those exact three words to myself a split second before I scrolled down and saw your response. Clearly you're a brilliant thinker! ^ |

Ok, wait. Seriously -- what do you do in Vegas alone? Sit by the pool. Maybe gamble. Maybe call the number on one of those cards ;) But going to a strip club or seeing a show or even hitting one of the many fine restaurants alone just sounds depressing...

Iīd go to Montreal. Supposedly great nightlife and guaranteed good food.

Boston or NYC.

I'd check to see if there are any rodeos going on anywhere and go to that.....otherwise I'd head to San Diego.
Thanks. |
I think you should explore your options in Canada and somewhere you normally wouldn't get to go. I'm assuming you have a pass so I'd use it to go to otherwise hard to get to or expensive to get to places. Newfoundland and Nova Scotia are two of the best places on the planet. Not sure if its too early to see icebergs or whale migration in NFLD, check some we sites. And then there are the territories. If you would natural beauty, go there. Ofcourse there is Montreal & Quebec City, the Rockies, the prairies (not a good idea this time of year) and Vancouver/Victoria. It depends what you are into.
If you are looking for a St.Paddy's day party, the best bet is NFLD. Haven't been there during that time but Halloween was insanely great so I imagine St. Paddy's would be even more so. I was in Boston for St. Paddy's once and it was a great time. Beautiful city, great weather, great food and really nice people. Good luck! |
Thanks for all the great suggestions, everyone! This question applies about once a month when the stars align that everyone is busy, so I'm excited to have a list of good suggestions.
I guess one factor I should have mentioned is that while the flights are essentially free, the hotels are not. As many thousands of Starwood points that I have, I tend to save them for big trips (five days at the US Grant in San Diego this summer, a long weekend at the new Mammoth property...) so having an affordable place to stay is always a concern. Focusing on that (and drawing out the question), what are some of your favorite destinations that, by their very nature, include some free or cheap accomodations? Examples I'm thinking of include great national parks with decent weather this time of year, so I could pack a sleeping bag, rent a car and call it a trip. Maybe there are destinations in North America that still have decent hostel-dorm housing where I can just get a bed and a locker? (I think a saw a decent hostel in downtown Vancouver that had such an option). See what I'm getting at? I suppose I could always post on CommunityBuzz for a place to crash :) |
Then definitely check out the Atlantic provinces. Nfld and NS are my favourites with Nfld bring on the top because its not cheap to get to. I think the others will be very boring this time of year. There are some great and cheap B&Bs. You could probably get them by googling or contacting the provincial tourism for a list.

Meet all of the following:
1. Somewhere I have never been 2. Something I would like to do/see 3. Somewhere that yields the most EQM/$ (not necessarially in that order) OR VEGAS!!!!! Since "next" weekend is here, what did you pick OP? |
No gambling

HA! I'm hoping to fly out of IND. Couldn't get them to extend my hotel rez, or I'd think about it.
What does one do in Vegas alone other than gamble? |

I've been to Vegas by myself quite a few times (work/trade shows), and find it quite boring (and often expensive, because I'll just sit at the tables!) without anyone to experience it with.
I'd gladly visit Utah solo to photograph national parks at my pace.

Plop me in the middle of southern Utah with a car and a map, and I'll explore the parks by myself for a weekend. Or a week. Or two. Just me and my camera.

Wow, spooky. I was going to say southern Utah for exactly those reasons. Can't get enough of that place.^
