I'd check to see if there are any rodeos going on anywhere and go to that.....otherwise I'd head to San Diego.
|
Plop me in the middle of southern Utah with a car and a map, and I'll explore the parks by myself for a weekend. Or a week. Or two. Just me and my camera.

I'd fly EUG to SFO to JFK (again). I envy you being able to "turn around" and go back to JFK. I just came back from New York City, and in fact I did go alone. |
Vegas may be busy with CONEXPO this week (3/11-15). http://www.conexpoconagg.com/
But I echo the Vegas recommendation! ^ |

So the themes are:
1. Festivals 2. Sun/pool/snooze 3. "Adult" @kkjay77: Miles are always a consideration, but buying 4 days in advance and being out of CR-1s would make for an expensive, unplesant trip. |
If you're into winter sports, now is an excellent time to head to Tahoe. Lots of sunshine but lots of great snow still on the ground.

E I've been to Vegas by myself quite a few times (work/trade shows), and find it quite boring (and often expensive, because I'll just sit at the tables!) without anyone to experience it with. I'd gladly visit Utah solo to photograph national parks at my pace. |
Ok, wait. Seriously -- what do you do in Vegas alone? Sit by the pool. Maybe gamble. Maybe call the number on one of those cards ;) But going to a strip club or seeing a show or even hitting one of the many fine restaurants alone just sounds depressing...

Most of that sounds depressing either way (I'm no fan of vegas, sorry)... |
New Orleans still has great food and music. Isn't the Jazz & Heritage festival coming up?
What about flying into SFO and taking PCH down to LAX? Chicago has great museums, food and music. |

Any place with wide open spaces. If I have go solo, then I truly want to be alone! Maybe Alaska...

1. Go to Chicago. 2. Dye hair green (temporarily). 3. Don't worry about being alone; the hair will be a conversation starter and it has the liberating effect of being sort of like a mask. You aren't quite in your usual persona, so inhibitions melt away. |

Well I travel solo most of the time and IMO opinion there is no 1 best place. SAT has a big St. Patties day party and the river green. SAN is ALWAYS a blast. A FA from SLC said the skiing is wonderful right now. (She actually convinced me to book a trip) Her favorites are Alta, Snowbird, and Park City. If outside the contiguous 48 is okay I would second Hawaii or maybe SJU. |
