I had someone recline while taxiing to the gate AFTER landing. And yes, the person in front of me was a high school age girl. People like that shouldn't be allowed to fly. At least I wait until after the seatbelt sign is off to recline, and put my seatback up when instructed. And I recline slowly to let the person behind me know.

Oh yes! That's horrible.

But I also notice that a lot of passengers treat the f/a like personal servants.

a. "The Others..."
b. TSA powertrippers

I just generally don't like people who think they own the place. I mean, coexist!

pbyaeger Feb 15, 2008 10:35 pm

Gum snappers! Or anyone chomping away, slurping and generally displaying the manners of a sloth. Why do some people feel it's perfectly fine to make so much noise?

That said, I'm not fond of those who demand I trade seats because of their poor planning, or those who think they deserve part of my space...and I'm a large woman who either sits up front or buys 2 in coach. If I've bought the second, it's NOT for us to share.

Security checks and their total inconsistency between airports.

People who recline and then complain when you need to grab their headrest to be able to get out of your seat.

callie-girl Feb 16, 2008 4:32 am

Buying water after security.
Crowding at the gate to get on board.
Overhead bin disasters and people who don't seem to be able to pack it up and sit down.
Finding out I didn't buy enough water after security and the FAs aren't interested in coming around again. (Only because I'd rather stay in my seat and not be an aisle-blocker.)
Aisle blockers. I'm not a fan of waiting in line for the toilet, but it's even worse when more than one person is waiting.
Crowding to get off the airplane.
Crowding at the baggage carousels.

I used to like people. Then I started flying.

So maybe the *one* thing that bothers me is...people.

Too bad we don't have high speed rail. Acela's what we call high speed rail? Pathetic. For real high speed rail, take a look at the TGV.

Huh? Have you ridden on the TGV? There's nothing special about it or EuroStar. In 2nd class, I'd probably say the seating is comparable in terms of set-up/size, but Acela is much newer, cleaner and has power at every seat (every other row on EuroStar has power and it alternates UK/Europe plugs). I couldn't find power on TGV. First class on Acela is much nicer than First Class on TGV or EuroStar. I think the only nicer thing about TGV/EuroStar is they go slightly faster than Acela and its a different technology that TGV uses. But Acela still goes up to 150mph (240kph) (though I acknowledge at places its more like 120mph). TGV can go upwards of 300mph, but it routinely is under 200mph in commercial operations. I'll give you that is faster and saves you a few hours on a long route (but from NY to Boston, that would save you about 30 minutes at best). Eurostar can go up to 180mph, but routinely travels in the 150mph range (and up until recently, was 80mph on the UK side).

Anyhow, TGV is faster, I'll give you that, but Acela isn't the "pathetic" high speed train you make it out to be.

Acela is pretty nasty, but perhaps your point of reference is the old
Metroliner, which didn't seem to have changed much the last time I
rode it (about '02 I guess) and the first time I rode it (about '69).

I've never had the feeling that Acela went much faster than 100, anyhow.

People who stand in the aisles chatting away with the person in front, next to or behind me, all the while leaning into me. Along those same lines, those who feel they want to chat up the FA's in the galley--loudly, while I'm trying to sleep, read or watch a movie in my fav bulkhead seat! (Also while they are standing there, you never really know if they are in line for the w.c or just taking up space )

Linda VH Feb 16, 2008 8:13 am

People who bang me in the head with their backpack/purse or whatever while boarding the plane. Yes, I try to watch and lean away but dang sometimes I'm in a good part of my book:D

APW Girl Feb 16, 2008 9:03 am

I suppose for itsseeing people putting their feet on bulkheads..doing their exercises as if they were in Gold's gym. I usually have a bulkhead seats in whatever class I'm travelling and once I had a seatmate that had her legs going up 3/4 on the bulkhead. Granted, she was tall and would like to stretch a bit, but how about getting up and moving around the cabin instead? Also, it really bothers me the way people maintain their personal space on a plane (its strange but the higher the class, the worse it looks...as if everyone should clean up after them!). I guess it boils down to consideration of others.

AusEuroFlyer Feb 16, 2008 10:01 am

One thing I really dislike when I fly is any inconsiderate/rude fellow passenger nearby.

Wow! Totally agree. On a past trip a couple of years ago, (HKG-EWR) with a fellow FT'er in a seat a couple of rows behind me in BF, I was shocked at the condition of his seating area when we where exiting-- trash and lots of newspapers everywhere. It was beyond a mess!! To be honest, it ended up giving me a totally different impression of him, than I had had prior to our flight  (But then again, I am the type who folds up the blanket and places it and the pillow in front of me, gets rid of the newspapers-- or at least has them in a neat pile)etc-- I also straighten up my hotel room prior to check out..

BamaGirl Feb 16, 2008 10:56 am

My list is long...and mostly been covered by others. So, just a couple more:

Hairy, beer-bellied men in tank tops, shorts and flip flops (just had the pleasure of being seat next to one in FC ATL-LAS).

FAs who do not respond (even a half nod would do) when I thank them.

People who remove their well used (read smelly) shoes during flight.

People who put their feet on the back of my arm rest so that they hit my elbows.

People who file, clip or othersie pick at their nails (especially those who dispose of the debris by putting it on the napkin on the armrest so that when the FA picks it up it scatters on me ).
