Smile Curious! Travel Time Question!

Friends,

I am curious to know this! When I travel from US to Europe it takes about 10 hrs 'Flying time' but when I return it takes less 'Flying time' of 8 hrs. How come this could happen.. anybody?

Thanks and appreciate your reply!

Welcome to FT.

Tailwinds going from west to east explain the difference in flying time.

This doesn't sound right. Because of prevailing winds, it almost always takes longer to fly from east to west. Ground speed difference can regularly exceed 200 MPH.

Can you offer more details on a specific trip you saw this?

My guess; The routes they fly is different. One flies further north.

Compare these 2:

Of course, they don't always fly like that...
