Using discount codes?
Hi!
I wasn't sure if this was the right group for this question. Sorry if it isn't - please move it as you see fit.
I was wondering about discount codes that I can find on the web (like for 5% off) that aren't single use but I expect are posted publicly by organizations/conventions/conferences who have deals with the airlines. Can I safely use those codes if they work on the airline's website for me? Do airlines ask for anything related to that code at check-in time?
Don't want to save $50 and be denied boarding or something like that! I'll appreciate if somebody could say how it works.
Thanks!
G.

Yes, you can use event-specific codes without worrying about being challenged day-of-flight.
Whether or not it's ethical is left up to the individual.
Note that some airlines (AA comes to mind) do not enable you to book online with these, and then levy a charge for the privilege of telephone booking. So, depending on the cost of the ticket, using the code may provide little savings, or even end up costing more.
