iPhone on the plane

I was told yesterday by a Vietnam Airlines flight attendant that I had to stop watching videos on my iPhone during the flight. When I explained to her that it was in "airplane mode", she said we don't allow you to use the iPhone during the flight. I asked her where it said this and she gave me the same lame answer. Anybody else have an issue using you iPhone on a flight?

It should be okay to use the iPhone as long as you turn off the transmitter, but some flight attendants will insist that all phones be turned off.

I was watching videos on my iPod Touch which is basically an iPhone without the phone. It was a UA flight and none of the FAs said a word other than "that's pretty cool."

I heard about LX not even allowing you to listen to IPOD during boarding! There was a thread recently on the Swiss Airlines forum

Add them to the list of those airlines you won't fly and LET THEM KNOW ABOUT IT.

Exactly. Customers in general have to make their point more often NOT buying a certain product. To be honest, the way apple acts in Germany about the iphone, i would never buy it...

The above is KLM's policy. No phones, smartphones etc may be used on board when in flight, whether in flight mode or not. It's one of the reasons why I never bought an integrated device.

Would be interested to see what they'd say about an iPod Touch, though, as this is basically identical to an iPhone except for that it doesn't have the phone component.
