Timeshare Advice

I have a timeshare that can be exchanged and needs to be used by November 19th. It is poor timing for me and I can't extend it as I've already done that once. Any idea where I could "advertise" this to people interested in travel. I am not interested in making any profit. Just would like to not lose the money invested. Would cost a buyer about $500 with exchange fee. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A Private Message could be sent if you prefer.

Tug2.net, the flyertalk of timeshare owners, has a classified ad section.

IME, every decent lead I've seen has come via vrbo.com. I use tug, but have only been contacted by scam artists and people looking for a way better deal than I was willing to offer.

Do you have the option of depositing with an exchange?

This week has already been deposited with Interval International and extended for one year. It can be exchanged for anywhere there is availability.
Thanks

No way to tear yourself away from work? We have been very busy, but about 3 weeks ago we clicked in on line and went to Freeport. Not the one we wanted, but we ended up really liking it and we agreed the week was refreshing. A lot of places like the one we went to has wifi and he was able to check in every morning for about an hour. Pretty painless.

Another good source of timeshare information is www.timeshareforums.com , as well as www.timesharetalk.co.uk

You might also consider using an independent exchange company, some of which give a 3 year credit for deposits rather than the 2 years of RCI and II.
Websites for some of the independent exchange companies include www.daelive.com , www.sfx-resorts.com , www.htse.net , www.tradingplaces.com , www.timex.to , and www.platinuminterchange.com . Some of the independent exchange companies also have free membership and lower exchange fees. Personally, I am going to let my membership in one of the big companies run out since I have done so well on exchanges with one of the independents.

I just took a week off for parent's week-end in Bar Harbor, and I go back in 3 weeks to pick up my daughter to drive home with her. Also have construction going on in my house. All my free time has been going back and forth to Bar Harbor and then needing to be home for the contractors. Believe you me, I wish I could use it. It's already been put in for exchange, so I think it is too late for another exchange company.

You could also try ebay, but they have some pretty strict rules on travel sales and require some sellers to register in advance with square trade. Craigslist is another option.
