Ease up on the cologne before flying please...

Just flew back on a flight from NRT-DFW on AA and overall the flight was good. I like the new seats on the 777.

Only thing I didn't like was the person sitting next to me. I think he must have taken a bath with his cologne before flying. He had the gold bracelet, jewelery, etc. I didn't say anything but just plugged my nose here and there.

Has anyone had this situation where it was so bad that you asked for another seat?

It's been a long time since I've seen an empty seat.

Last year on one of the last SJC-NRT flights, someone near me (dunno who, exactly) reeked of B.O. Seriously Stunk Up the area around me. Don't think it was me. THAT was a longgggg flight.

Agree, a empty seat next to you is becoming rarer and rarer (and will probably stay that way for the foreseeable future). Too much cologne I can deal with, paxs with BO, POS with their excess fat rolls spilling onto me (although I have a method to avoid that), screaming babies, and paxs that keep complaining (as though they have only flown on the Concord in the past and surely expect that level of service) are another matter. However, don't think that this is an AA issue only.

I take a blanket and stuff it in between the two seats and then I take my reading material (and I take a lot to read) and put it between me and the blanket. Nothing then becomes between me, the reading material, and the blanket.

Don't you still have the issue of less seat space?

A great topic for TravelBuzz, as this is not related to a specific airline.

How can you ask for another seat when the plane's full?

Try this line, then duck.

"Sir/Madame, that's a lovely cologne you're wearing; must you marinade in it?"

Southwest got it right after they got sued becuase an obese person spilled off into another persons seat. I am sure at one point or another we have all had to put up with all the aforementioned scenarios. I personally don't mind the excess in cologne, better that than BO. As far as the chubbies go, I as politely as possible under those circumstances, drop the arm rest back down and tell them, everything in life has it's purpose.

Raise your hand to your nose, plant your thumb firmly against one nostril, your index finger firmly against the other, and while looking the offending party directly in the face, say in a loud squealing voice, "PEEEE-YUUUU!!!"
