I heard about a crazy guy that wants to offer smoking flights out of Europe to Hongkong. Hopefully this will fail as it is really disgusting and dangerous.

Also, my guess is that you will find airlines somewhere in Afrika or the former Sowjet states that still allow to smoke...

I remember just 4-5 years ago AF used to allow passengers to light up after meals near the loos.

I read about some German guy who wanted to make an all smoking airline with flights to Japan? Anyone know the progress on that? Not that I am bothered as I would hate flying on that.

Each to their own i guess.

I believe you're referring to Smintair. They wanted to fly between Düsseldorf and Tokyo, but all recent articles now say Düsseldorf to Nagoya. They have a website at smintair.com, where the guy running it compares smoking bans to the NAZIs.

You are correct, I knew it was somewhere to Asia, I have no idea why I remembered HKG.

Anyway, somebody comparing the smoking ban to the Nazis must cleary be crazy and stupid, people like that have just no idea what they are talking about.

I know US airlines haven't allowed smoking in quite some time, but I still find it amusing when I find an ashtray on board. It has been a few years since I have seen one in the armrest, but I often still see them in the lavatory.

- in an enclosed cubicle AFAIR.

There used to be a "smoker-friendly airlines" web site but it seems it hasn't been updated in years, so maybe this means there aren't any smoker-friendly airlines left?

Back when I was working at CO, I remember a story from just after the smoking ban went into effect. The cleaning crews recommended to management that the armrest ashtrays be welded shut, but HQ refused, because of the supposed cost. A while later, one of the big execs from IAH, participating in one of those "spend a day in a different department" things, worked a shift as a cleaner. The exec was so disgusted at what he saw that, when he got back to his regular job, he issued the order to weld them shut

Except for this thread at least the others aren't quite as trollish as before.
