I scored a 5... similar issues to most others. Bathroom before seat belt, garbage in seatback pocket (only if FAs don't make a round), shoes off, can't remember the others.
|
I'm surprised - I scored a 7. I believe I have the same issues - getting my belt off before reaching for the gate (altho I don't see how that's arse-worthy?), leaving garbage in the "pocket", and looking outside the window).

4. I don't want to be an angel.

5/24
I really do like to take my shoes off. As for carry on rules...I usually get a couple duty free things in the terminal and my camera backpack is sort of big and odd shaped(padding for lenses) so that it doesn't exactly fit within the specified carry on dimensions. I like keeping the window shade up during take off and landing. There's also peeking out to check the scenery every once and a while. Fasten Seat Belt sign? Oh come on. I've seen that left on for hours on trans Pacific flights. Unless, we're on ascent, descent, or in turbulence, I just do as everybody else does and ignore it. Also, I do tend to leave newspapers and magazines that I've read in the seat pockets. Never thought it was a big deal. |
I got a two, one for taking my shoes off (hey it's a 12+ hour Intl flight, cut me some slack) and for not always helping others with their luggage (if you can't safely handle your luggage, it should have been checked not carried on)

There are questions that require a bit of creative interpretation, such as: "You put your elbows on both armrests, even if there is someone sitting next to you." Well, duh, if I'm upgraded to premium class, the armrest space is NEVER an issue. @:-) On the other hand, if I'm in Economy, I am NOT an armrest hog, so I answered False to that one. ;)
Result: 2 O to 2 - If your answers are true, you are a flying angel, not a flying arse. I hope to see you on my next flight. |
3/24, although I definitely disagree that putting your arms on both armrests is a bad thing. Armrests are for sharing, it's the not sharing that's the problem.
Same goes for looking out the window and taking your shoes off. It's easy to make a judgement call as to whether these are inconsiderate or not (and there are those who will get annoyed whether or not it actually has any material effect on them). Otherwise, I think the rest of it is just basic civility, not really anything to do with flying. |
I might be at zero on most flights, although I would get annoyed at being expected to help with luggage. Most of the time that doesn't come up, though. Also, I booked a window seat, so I control the shade, and I might want to look out if the sun is not shining directly in. This rarely affects anyone's movie-watching ability. I might occasionally unbuckle my belt too early without thinking about it. But since I'm probably at the window this is just an accident, not some ridiculous thought that I can get out in front of people. If somehow all that happened on the same flight, I'd be at 3. I don't think there's anything else questionable. I don't like to take my shoes off. I think I do a good job of not hogging the armrest.

Now I don't disagree with all of those who pack far too much but speaking as a 5'2 woman, some of the overheads are just far too high. My bag is normally quite a reasonable weight but there are times I just cannot reach into the overhead and/or find it hard to push the bag up.
And then, heaven help me when I do finally muscle it into the overhead compartment, only to hear a crunch, because I didn't know that there was a laptop in the front pocket, unprotected. |
Seatbelt and window shade problems....I do enjoy the view. Could be better; could be worse......

Wow, I'm generally civilized, but I'm sure not an angel :D
Besides, some of the questions can be taken a few ways. Do you take your shoes off on a 3 hr flight? No How about an 8+ hour overnight flight in J or another long flight where you're provided with flight socks or even slippers? Sure. How about that 15 hr trans-Pac or trans-Polar? You'Betcha my shoes are coming off. How about flights when the pilot just doesn't turn the fasten seatbelt sign off? Are you being rude/inconsidering/doing wrong, or just doing what ya gotta do? At least a few ifs... Everything isn't black and white. |
It's tough with binary answers. An analogue 1 through 10 scale might allow for some occasional armrest hogging. I scored 1, but would have been higher except my status allows me to board when I want anyway.

Zero here, but these questions aren't very good, IMO... I do take my shoes off on longhaul flights in J, but not otherwise, but there's no middle answer. I do expect good treatment as an elite, but I expect everyone else to be treated with respect as well... whatever.:)

The window shade is a toughie. I'm willing to split the difference - close it partially, but I can still see down (I for some reason really like the transpolar route views - the ice capped mountains still move me, and same with the ice flows).
For shoes, if I'm in the front, I'm using the travel socks. For luggage, I'm willing to help the elderly (Canadian politeness) and anyone who is having problems with the overhead bins only due to height (pretty obvious when it is only the height that is hurting them). Otherwise, tough luck. Don't haul so much stuff. |
