Need help booking
Hi all,
This is probably a silly question, considering how much I fly, but I have never booked award travel before...
I am taking my family (2 adults, 1 2yo) to Orlando from Des Moines on September 29-Oct 6. I attempted to book this using points on Northwest, but there are segments that are firstclass only so it is costing me about 45K per person. I know I can get tickets for about $300 per person because there are coach seats available. Apparently, I just can't get onto those seats with awards travel. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how I can make this trip inexpensive?
TIA
AJ

It's not uncommon for their to be coach seats avaliable for sale but no "saver" level award seats.
If you haven't already, pick up the phone and call instead of relying on the website. The website shows only NW award flights, while the phone agents can also search for award seats on CO and DL.
Failing that, also look into splitting up (you on one flight, spouse and kid on another); or into alternate dates.
Good luck.
