This usually makes somene mad. Frequently the response is 'just a little'? No. It really makes me cold, and I just don't think I have to reach a compromise and suffer later, especially on a redeye. It isn't about getting the whole can. I don't want the ice. Or the ice cream either when that's an option.

I've never asked for the can (although I'm glad to have it when offered). I always have trouble staying hydrated, even on short flights, so since the 'liquid madness' started, I ask for a soda and a cup of water, both no ice. I don't mind if my drink is room temp; it drives me crazy to get a cup full of ice and two small swallows of a drink.

A bit OT, I was in Y on BA, SEA-LRH a few years ago. I hesitated making up my mind if I wanted 'white' or 'red' with dinner, so the FA smiled, put one of each on my tray and asked me to let her know which I preferred. ;)

On my last flight from DFW --> MIA on AA I had iceberg sized cubes and maybe 2 ounces of diet soda in the cup. When I asked for a can the FA said she would have to come back after she was done serving other passengers. I never saw her again.

Depending on the airline I usually ask for more than one drink at a time anyway. If the dinner service is about to start I'll usually ask for an aperitif like a G&T or a bloody mary and then either beer or wine to drink with my meal or just ask for two of what I'm going to be drinking to save them coming back.

Only on American recently have they refused to give me more than one drink at a time.

I also ask for no ice - hurts my teeth, and takes up too much room. I prefer room temp drinks, anyhow :)

My strategy is to always ask for cranberry juice. Most airlines have it, but no passengers want it, and the FA's hate having a half-empty can so I usually get the whole thing while the person sitting next to me has to make due with a tiny plastic cup of Sprite.

United's policy is an embarassment. I can drink the equivalent of a can, but I have to drink it bit by bit by having my cup full of ice constantly refilled. We should all make it a policy to turn on the FA light for another glass of Pepsi. After a while, they will get tired of that and start giving out full cans.

What really irritates me is that when you ask for a can, they look at you like your some kind of a pig. Really, am I the only one who can easily drink a 12 ounce can of soda?

On United they always give you can, but, with exception of:

1, On Ted. They give you a cup. But you can ask for second cup.

2, On B737R, 737X type of aircrafts with flight time of 1 hour or less. Because
on these planes they do not have carts, FAs have to run drinks out by hand
on a tray, and this is the best way to get the most amount of drinks out in
a short time. You can also ask for refill.

3, In premium cabins. United doesn't want FAs to leave cans especially in the
first class. FAs are supposed to come around to refill your drink. They
consider this as a service; they pour for you so you don't have to do it
yourself. But you can ask them to leave you the can.

:)

Just got to CDG from LHR....

....I'll leave the LHR experience for another thread, but I flew in Y and had a window seat. Middle seat empty, the rest of the plane packed.

The FAs came through and handed out their snack-trays and beverages. I asked for a diet coke and a glass of water (had a headache, needed something to down the aspirin). The following dialogue followed:

FA:
Anything else?

Me: No, thank you, that'd be all.

FA: No champaign?

Me: No, thank you, I think I have all I need.

FA: We have wine and beer too...and champaign, are you sure that I can't tempt you with anything else?

Me: Ok, I'll have another diet coke, then.

(which I got).

Not sure why, but on this particular flight it seemed like the FAs really really wanted to empty the plane of alcohol, they even came through with the cart a second time.

I don't fly intl. on AF a lot, so I do not know if this is normal for them? I've not seen that kind of "generousity" in Y on other airlines for a while....

I once had just gone to the bathroom and thus was trapped by the drink cart.

I asked for a drink and the FA told me she would give me one in a minute.

After being trapped for about 5 minutes, I helped myself to a can.

The FA was not a happy camper...and threatened to call the pilot

This is one area where, in my experience, SWA F/A's are noticeably better than what you often encounter elsewhere. They always seem very happy to accomodate my requests with regard to drink service. Giving good service really does seem important to them.

I have two small kids at home and will sometimes ask for extra snack boxes to take to home to them. (Any food that comes in a box is fun, apparently) The F/A's have always responded very positively to my request even if it meant them running to the other end of the airplane to get them for me. One time the F/A returned with two each of the snack boxes, coloring books, pilot wings, SWA playing cards, and SWA pens. It's really nice to deal with service employees who seem so enthusiastic about providing good service.

Flew US Airways(or technically America West) this weekend, PHX-ONT and back. On the way to ONT, the crew was apparently some kind of a "crew of the month" or whatever, and they were nice and gave me a full can on request - and a second can on their way back with the cart. My colleague asked for tomato juice(I could never drink it!!) and got a glass.

On the way back, I asked for a can of diet coke again - which I got. She then asked my colleague if he would like a full can of tomato juice - which he did. I also got a second can when they went back with the cart.

So everything fine, I got two cans on a 50-60 minutes flight. No problems whatsoever.

My company has no policy, and, I suppose, I am lazy...(have you ever seen how long it takes to pour a Diet Coke on a short flight??) I give you a cup of ice and the whole can....
