do FAs like you?
 

I always do my best to make nice with FAs (i.e. dress respectfully, watch the safety demo, say kind words, and what not)...... but, I don't get a lot of love on my tpacs.

On the other hand, I flew with my gf this week, who drank up a storm (she has low bp and her doctor told her that drinking on flights is cool, if not beneficial) and she was treated like a princess.

So, what's the proper formula?

While the thought of commenting is very tempting... I think I'd probably violate the FT Guidelines & Rules. Stay close to your girlfriend on your next flight and reap some of the benefits.

Some FA's would love you (not like but love) do anything to make you feel special and pampered you so good.

Some FA's would just hate you like you want to get off the plane asap.

I actually had the same purser 3 times before. 2nd and 3rd time she remembered me by name and I got a lot of goodies :) Too bad I was clearing security :(

As long as my last minute upgrade didn't take the spot of their SA FA friend, they usually like me. :D

The FAs aren't there to make you feel "loved," they are there to ensure inflight safety and secondarily to feed and water you. If they do that, they've done their jobs.

What am I missing here? Not to sound harsh, but should I really care if they like me? I would prefer that they do, but if they don't, no biggie. Guess what - I am the customer. They are there to provide what DCBob said in his post. After all, that's what I paid for.

Well, i'm not 100% sure agree with this post. I'm not a dog and being fed and watered somehow does not appeal to my sensibilities.

I believe that in addition to safety, the FAs are there to make the flight as enjoyable as possible. IMO, this transcends being "fed and watered."

I completely disagree. So are you saying that FA's that throw food at UA, chew gum while serving, never look at you, and treat every request you have as a huge inconvenience are the same as smiling and welcoming FA's? If this is the case I have a hard time figuring out why so many people prefer SQ's service over UA's. I think beyond just serving what they have, they should make you feel welcomed and as if they care about serving you.

Unless I'm wrong (which is as frequent as a I fly in Y), I didn't interpret neither DCBob's post this way nor the subject matter of this thread.

They should make you feel welcomed and as if they care about serving you. That doesn't mean they have to like me and invite me over for Passover Seder.

They don't have to like you to give good CS. @:-)

FWIW, I've had great CS from a number of FA's, I only know for sure that one of them likes me, but I couldn't care less about the rest...

They tend to *love* MrZhu on transpacs. But then he translates for them as needed. They bring him wine from C. He likes very much!

Yes and No.

What you described are indeed their responsibilities. However they are in a CS position whether they choose to accept it or not. They are representatives of UA whether they are pushing me down the slide or shoving "chicken or pasta" down my throat, and their demeanor and ability to interact with customers is key.

Do they have to like me? Of course not. Do they have to treat me with respect, courtesy and politeness? Most certainly. If they cannot do that then they are not "doing their job".
