I have to agree with Luckycoins.

This is not a fastfood cafeteria nor Greyhound bus-trip. If FA's doesn't like the passengers that's fine as long as he or she performs good service,being politeness, meet the PAX needs.

UA need to train their own FA's to give good service. UA-WHQ need to let SQ or NH train their own FA's.

I've heard this over a million times "Safety is our main priority" wrong answer!
It's "Safety and make sure that our passengers are well taken care of during flight is our main priority"

I'm not qualified to give medical advice, but counsel that "drinking"--in this case, drinking alcohol if I understand correctly, was cool, though not beneficial, is thoroughly suspect. Drinking other liquids-- plain water, tea, coffee, juices--for the sake of hydrating her system, might well have been the intended message, and certainly what has most often appeared in the general press.
As to being liked or otherwise by FA's, I make no comment, but I do style myself, "Godiva Gifter"...:D

When I interviewed for FA with UA
 

I made the mistake of commenting during a group interview that FAs were on board primarily by virtue of FAA regs, and for safety.

Wrong: the head honcho expressed surprise that NONE of the dozen or so of us used the term "service." <stunned silence from all candidates>
AFAIK, none of us was hired.:o

I used to interact a lot more with FAs when I sat in 15 G or H on transpacs, especially the one who sat in the facing jumpseat.

Now that I mostly sit downstairs with the masses, either in C or Y, I hardly have any interaction on trans ocean segments. The best seating I find these days is rarely facing a jumpseat.

Once in a while I strike up a conversation about cool places to go in Asia or, of course, optimized shopping. This can be like the threads here in FT, though, where you end up having the same conversation over and over. And it's only if you run into someone like a FA who's in the Air Force Reserve that they may be mildly interested in hearing about how to get a share taxi in Phnom Penh.

I keep to myself and don't make a fuss. I think this is what most FA's are looking for in a passenger. Everything else (the transaction of choclate for goods and services, giving gifts out of kindness to your fellow human beings, saying thank you, liking/hating your job, chewing gum, etc) is periphery.

I think it's much easier for an FA to like you (or dislike you) if you're flying in a premium cabin, especially if it happens to be relatively empty. In this situation they get to interact more with you than if you are among the masses in the back of the bus.

I think that FAs like me when they have the chance to form an opinion, but they certainly don't dislike me when I'm lost among the masses.

FAs love me. period. :)

Of course they like you! You are likeable, right?:D

Where's the Love
 

Considering the average age of a tpac FA is over 50, the flight time is
minimum 10 hours, can anyone expect to show Love... pushing a cart down
and aisle at 35,000 feet going 700 mph. Don't think so~!

same with me but 5 times and as long as i have a purple tootsie-pop for her, i'm in for a great flight (any other color and it's the cargo hold for me :eek: ;) )

I usually use MP miles to upgrade to F, and I have found that the FAs in F are almost always entirely cordial and friendly, and they give me a pleasant flying experience. Sometimes after using the lav, I engage in a bit of chitchat with the FA in the galley if she isn't preoccupied with duties, and have essentially always enjoyed a fun conversation, albeit brief.

In Y there is less interaction with the FAs, but what interaction there is has been professional and friendly, in my experience.

I've gotten to the point where I don't demand (or expect) squat. Half the time I'm asleep. When they ask me if I need or would like something, and I say no thanks 3 times. They usually are a bit miffed that they cant provide "expected service" When you start your trip this way, you would be SURPRISED at the service you get when you do ask for something, :) UA's FA's get a gold star from me.

This sounds like the standard UA PA announcement. However, I have pleasantly noticed that UA crews seem to have gotten the message that this attitude is annoying and have dropped the "flight attendants are here primarily for your safety" rap.

I don't think it is too much to ask for a generally pleasant atittude from flight crews. I understand that some passengers don't deserve it. I understand that everyone has a bad day or flight. I also don't expect "love" in the conventional sense. But a pleasant professional atittude within the realm of today's in flight evironment should be delivered by any airline's in flight crews. The one's that don't do this on a regular basis will find me looking for another airline.

Every UA flight over water I always gotten great service from the FAs. With or without the box of chocolates. But just not to find out what bad service is, I'll keep bringing the box.
I also remember once when I gave the chocolates to the purser, and she goes "Two can play this game" and handed me a bag of her own chocolates and let me take a few pieces :) Those trump'd my duty free ones

Put me in the chocolate gifting camp; I do this quite often and although I have been semi-flamed in another thread, I plan to continue the practice.

I do not do this as a bribe, but as a thank-you for all of the great service that I have received through the years, and as a reminder that not all passengers will take them for granted.

I do not want or expect anything special in return, but this simple act of kindness has put many smiles on the faces of FAs -- and for this I know they like me! Of course, I am so darn charming that even without the candies I would probably be loved...:p
