Good luck.

I was unlucky in that situation on ANZ in the past. But I did get 3 adjacent seats all empty ^ ^ , and peacefully slept the entire flight to Auckland

snowball's chance in heck. Try asking for a free ice cream cone somewhere. The difference between your coach ticket and a business seat is $thousands. Nice birthday present. Actually, odds are good you're not the only person on the plane with a birthday either. I don't even think an FA's gonna sing Happy Birthday to you.

Tried this on Air NZ on the way to Papeete for our honeymoon. No luck but they put us in economy bulkhead and supplied us with biz class champagne. If you want biz or first, you need to pay nowadays or use FF miles.

BR gives me 50% "birthday bonus miles" for my longest segment flown my birthday month. CI does the same I believe. At least it's something.

Even if we don't get anything, that's fine. I bought the seats we wanted in the first place, so anything above and beyond what we're already getting would be gravy.

Now...our hotel stays are another matter entirely.

Cheers,

Adrian

How'd they know it was your birthday...

Arriving into HNL on Monday from MSP, the NW captain made two birthday announcements. It was a nice touch.
