Pedestrians? I thought it meant pedophile. I assumed the sign was designed to help drivers get up to kill speed. Apologies to the innocent.

As a resident of North America, any city where the cars are driving on the left. I have to constantly remind myself to triple-check before crossing at an intersection without a red light. (London comes to mind...) Other cities might include Amsterdam and Vienna. (Cities that have trams as well as cars.)

Athens would have to be number one on the list for me.

Remember the first time I rented a car in Greece and paused for a mother and child who had begun to enter the marked crosswalk. She looked at me in astonishment as the taxi following me slammed on the breaks to avoid crashing into the rear of the car that I was driving. Never paused for a pedestrian again that trip or any other time I've been to to Greece. Too dangerous.

Having recently visited Italy, I'm going to nominate Rome. As for the safest, which I know you didn't ask about, it has to be Venice

London does have "LOOK RIGHT" and "LOOK LEFT" painted on the ground where the crosswalk starts to remind pedestrians which way road traffic is coming from.
