So Stupid...
I did something stupid...
Flying at night. I wake up, feel a serious need to go (and I mean a SERIOUS need), unstrap, jump over the aisle pax, run towards the front only to get yelled at by the F/A...
...turns out we were on final approach, seconds from touchdown.

If it makes you feel any better... I saw something even more stupid about 6 years ago. American Eagle. Into Boston Logan. On a prop job (Saab 340?).
The lady went to the lav at the back even though the fasten seat belts was on. The FA had his back turned at the time so he didn't notice.
She came out about 20 seconds from landing. He started yelling 'sit down! sit down!' and ran up the aisle to strap her dumb a*& (and himself) in in the first seat available. They just made it.

A few years ago I was in the last row of coach on a DL 757 taxiing out for takeoff from SEA. As we took the runway, some numbskull about 15 rows ahead of us unbuckled, stood up and ambled toward the back. The FAs in the jumpseats weren't watching the cabin and didn't see the guy until he loomed up in front of them and said, "Hey, hi. I got a lot of friends who are flight attendants..." He was drowned out by the 757's engines spooling up as we started the takeoff roll, and by the FAs screaming at him to "Lie down! LIE DOWN on the FLOOR!" Lie DOWN, dammit!" He did as he was told and said later he'd just "flaked" and forgotten we were in takeoff mode.

I did something similar. I was flying to meet my husband after his mother died. I was grieving. I was tired because I hadn't had any sleep the night before and I'd had two bloody mary's. I changed planes and fell asleep before takeoff. I *THOUGHT* we had taken off or at least I dreamt it, so I went to the lav needing to go. They made an announcement and I was SO embarrassed for my major gaffe. At least I was in first and had to only face a few angry faces. I was mortified.

Same thing happened last week - I wake up, feel the need to go, so I unstrap, walk past the aisle seat (no need to jump in bulkhead row), suddenly notice that everyone is seated and hear the sound of wheels going down. Scooted back before the FA could yell

Last year there was a woman stowaway who got on the plane by flashing a boarding pass for another flight. She hid in the bathroom during takeoff and for the first part of flight until somebody knocked on the door and she had to come out. After a man went into the bathroom she tried to steal his seat but his wife wouldn't let her have the seat.
Now that was stupid!

As someone that has been standing during a landing of a chartered 737 (no, not a business jet, a retired southwest plane converted for cargo operations), I can tell you that SCREAMING is a mild reaction by the FAs. The plane I was on had a smooth cargo deck and only the galley and lav (INOP) remaning on the cockpit back wall. It was like when I would go sledding as a youngster, except with my belly as the sled and aluminum as the snow.

I was on a DTW-BOS NW flight several years ago (as it happens, my only flight on the late lamented NW DC-10), across the aisle from a tour group of Japanese schoolgirls. During our final approach into Logan, one of them stood up to fish a minidisc case out of the overhead bin so that she could change her musical selection. Apparently she didn't realize that we had maybe three minutes left before touchdown. Needless to say, the FA's were not amused.

I'm surprised the FA's freak out so much.... its not like there is a major risk of dismemberment/death if you stand during takeoff/landing.
Then again, given how people push the limits I guess they need to be strict or else all the sheeple would be doing it all the time.

For normal takeoff and landings, yes, you probably could stand though you'd want to hang onto something. But there are a lot of things that can go wrong during a takeoff or landing which could result in "sudden cabin movement" -- hard landing, rejected takeoff, evading a runway incursion, etc. This can throw an unbelted passenger around the aircraft interior or into other passengers.
