We stayed at the Le Meridien Luxor, March 2006, we payed approx. $ 50 per night. We made our reservations less than a week in advance. Our stay was good. We presented a two-year old Starwood Platinum card and were overwhelmed with attention. It was on a delayed basis but it made for an amusing trip. We made airport pick-up arrangements in advance for a somewhat reasonable price, which was good considering the lateness of the hour and how tired we were. We travelled from PHX to to LAX, LAX to CDG, CDG to CAI, CAI to LXR. So we were in no frame of mind to negotiate taxi fares. We still had to hang tough with the taxi driver with the pre-arranged price.

In Cairo we stayed at the Hilton by the Museum. It was okay. We stayed on the Executive Floor with lounge access which was nice. We expected the rates to be less but we paid around $100.

We stayed at the Hilton in Sharm El Sheik, a GREAT experience. We paid around $100. The service impressed us the most.

We stayed in Nuweiba at the Hilton, not so great.

In Aswan we stayed at the Basma hotel, no affiliation.

Get a Lonely PLanet guide book and read through it. You can find reccomendations for high end to low end. I stayed in places that were just great while traveling through Egypt. When traveling in countires like Egypt I skip the big chains - totally stale and lack any charm. Be a traveler and not a tourist .
